How many of you still hand-write anything? You may remember a while back I talked about how handwriting was going the way of the dodo bird? If you haven’t known that fact you most likely aren’t surprised. In fact 75% of American students in grades 4-12 were writing below grade level on a national writing exam. How is that even possible? Not to knock the computer because that would make the world’s biggest hypocrite but I think that handwriting is one of the most personal forms of communication. I’m talking right up there with talking! BIC® has a campaign called Fight for Your Write that I know will be right up your alley!
All you have to do is visit BICFightForYourWrite.com and sign the pledge (which I did and took like 2 seconds!) then share the badge to tell your social media people to do the same to support the cause! When you take the pledge you are entered to WIN a $1,200 BIC Prize Pack so you can write more at home. No Purch Nec., U.S. only, 18+. Ends 9/14/2015. For details and full rules visit www.bicfightforyourwrite.com
This is important for me because I think that we are becoming more dependent on computers as it is. Although, yes I do depend on mine for my job. However while I want my children to understand and enjoy computers I want them to be able to use their brains and well. I don’t want them to have to always depend on spell check. Not to mention I want them to have their own signature. No one seems to think about something as minor as that. Int he future is everyone going to print their names? How will that be uniquely you? Just a thought! In my opinion the written word is one of the truest art forms we have.
I have my children practice handwriting all the time. Anytime they receive a gift from an older person I have them write a thank you note to them. I also have them hand write their own Christmas and birthday cards each year. They also have pen pals that they write to as well as send letters to our troops. These things are important to me. Think about how you fell whenever you get a handwritten card or note. It makes you feel special doesn’t it? It does and that is what I am hoping to impart to my children.
I don’t know about you all but BIC® Mechanical Pencils have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Way back when I first discovered mechanical pencils! In fact they have been helping kids reach thier potential for over 30 years! That is a long time! Trust me I know because I am a little older than that (okay more than a little but we aren’t gonna talk that ;)) In fact BIC® is having “surprise 30th birthday” Sweepstakes on Facebook. These are the mini-rules for the Mechanical Pencil 30thBirthday Sweepstakes which will be running on the BIC Pen Pals Facebook Page.,

This is a great campaign. Just the other day at the bookstore I bought sn b adorable set of note cards and my 17 year old daughter asked me what I was getting them for. She asked me this in between texting the entire shopping trip in the store. Ugh. Thankfully she loves art so she still does a lot by hand, not computer. It’s still so frustrating. Thank you for the link!

Wow, great campaign. Handwriting is so, so important and is something I will definitely encourage with my 3littles as they grow up.

I took the pledge! I notice my handwriting is getting terrible since I type most of the time.

I love it and I totally see this now a days..I always wonder if I’m still the only one that writes out notes instead of on my tablet..I have notes everywhere and I have a calendar/planner that I write in almost daily..I think I’m a hands on person…great campaign!

I’ve noticed lately that even when I’m writing a short note, my handwriting is terrible. I used to be able to write and write and write.

I am really stressing handwriting in school with our son because it is so important!

This is a great campaign to promote writing. I think handwriting is somewhat of a lost art.
