After reading through the Financial Literacy Guide and the Gender Gap I realized there are things that I have never done that I really need to do. Especially now that I am the single parent. I have always handled the money and the budget but there is a lot about our financial security that I know nothing about. I didn’t know that I need an umbrella policy to protect my assets from lawsuits. am not alone though because apparently only 20% of women surveyed only have one.
The guide has three steps for women to get started on understanding their finances and I have begun on step two already. I am tracking my income and spending so I can work up a budget that will allow me to plan more for the future. Learning to create a household budget has not been easy and I have only been doing it a few weeks. Because most of my income is from my blogging it changes from month to month so I have been working on planning using the lowest amount possible I could make in a month. No it’s not zero!
I am learning more about the stocks and bonds. Not to mention to understand more about what I need to make sure my future and retirement are safe. I am so glad that I read the Financial Literacy Guide and the Gender Gap because it has really helped me get myself on track. I still have a ways to go but I am taking control of my finances and loving it. I no longer want the fact that I am a woman to mean I don’t have control or understand my finances! I highly recommend that all of you wonderful ladies (and men because you never know you might learn something to) read it!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

This sounds like a great book. I was a single parent for 14 years so I know how challenging that can be. It is good to know as much as you can when it comes to financial literacy.

I need to read this. Not that I don’t know ANYTHING about finances, but it’s a confidence thing. Good luck with your budget.
