Fire Away

Fire Away

book review disclosure

So I may have been bitten, just a little bit, by the fireman bug! When you read romance novels there is naturally a genre within that genre, if you will, that you lean towards. For me mostly it has always been historical romance. I simply love it but then I discovered NetGalley and all of the wonderful books they offer and well my how world has changed. Fire Away was intriguing because it was one of those that was and wasn’t the typical romance story.

About the Book

When two people fall for the same cupcake, more than tempers flare…

Claire Milton moves back to Somewhere, TX with her life in shambles. She lost her job, her savings, and the support of her parents. But she has an idea that will put everything back on track. And she needs Meg Klein’s help. The MatchBaker. When Claire attends her scheduled taste-testing at Meg’s Bakery in Old Town Somewhere, TX, she doesn’t expect to have company, let alone her first crush.

And what a crush he was.

Strapping fireman, town sports hero, all around hunky and currently quite single. So what is Aidan doing at a wedding cake tasting?

Captain Aidan Conley doesn’t get out much. He’s been mostly in limbo, trying to avoid the town gossips who only want to talk about him and his late wife. When doing his sister a favor puts him in the path of Claire Milton, his high school best friend, he can’t stop thinking about how much he wants to kiss her. But when a cold case at the fire house puts his career in jeopardy and Claire is the only person standing between him and a life sentence, he has to put his feelings aside and fight for his life.

But a fireman who knows entirely too much about how to investigate fires must be under suspicion when his wife dies suddenly in a house fire. Even if they were the happiest couple on earth. So when Claire discovers evidence that they weren’t as happy as they seem and it casts a light on Aidan she doesn’t want to admit, she has to choose between her resurfacing feelings and her own safety…

From the Somewhere, TX Volume I boxed set, TEXAS SUNRISE.

My Thoughts

What do you do when you are in love with your high school best friend who by the way happens to be your dead wife’s sister? Talk about trouble waiting to happen! Yep you read that correctly! Aidan is for the most part a hermit but he comes into town to help out his sister only to reconnect with Claire who happens to be at the same bakery trying to find the perfect cupcake for her new business. Claire has always had feelings for Aidan and never believed any of the rumors that he had anything to do with her sister’s death. However once they are seen together and the rumoring begin to fly so does the case against Aidan. So what is a girl to do? Claire does what any other would and sets out to help prove her friend is innocent. The only problem is that she discovers her sister wasn’t as innocent as she and everyone else thought. These characters are great and the mystery of what happened and who the real killer is really draws you in. Once the killer is revealed those few pages are heart stopping and the action is great. You can feel how much Claire and Adian are drawn to each other but also how their connection is deeper than either of them ever expected.

Looks like a great read without a lot of mystery and drama, which is my kind of book, this would be something i wouldn’t want to put down. And i love the title of it.

I think you’re right – this sounds like a different type of love story. I like one with an actual plot not just a sappy one.

Oh this one sounds really good! I like that it’s a little mystery and a little romance all rolled into one story. I also like that the story line sounds very realistic. There are a lot of people that reconnect later in life with old friends and find romance. Thanks for the review!
