Today I wanted to share my first time shaving story with y’all. Well, more like my first time using shaving cream because I didn’t use it prior to this. I first started shaving my legs at an older age than most girls I knew. At sixteen I figured it was more than time to start and I wanted to be like all the other girls. I didn’t start using shaving cream however until about twelve years or so ago.
Before the shaving cream I was the world’s worst shaver! I cannot tell you how many times I got out of the tub and had to put those little band-aids all over my legs and lets not even talk about under my arms! If I wasn’t cutting my self up, I would discover later that I had managed to shave half a leg. Or worse that I had left just one strip of leg unshaven. I know it sounds crazy but it’s true. My underarms never seemed to look like the women you see on television.
There was always hair left under there somewhere and I am talking noticeable hair. I just could never get it right. It didn’t matter how hard I tried or what tools I used. I have no idea why I never thought to use shaving cream other than the fact that I always somehow associated it with men.
The first time I used shaving cream was on my wedding day. I was taking my shower so that I could get ready and noticed the can (it was my future husband’s can) just sitting there on the counter. I thought “Why not?” I didn’t think I could do any worse with it than I did without. I wanted my legs and under arms to be completely hairless on my wedding night which would be a first in our relationship! So I squirted some out and began my new found relationship with that wonderful white foam.
I use a thin layer of shaving cream, shave my legs, and then rinse. However, afterwards and because I am known for missing places I run my hands up and down my legs to make sure I got it all. If not I repeat the process. My underarms are a bit trickier. I shave up, down, and side ways under them suckers to make sure I get it all. If I am at all in doubt I just shave again. Better to have to do a little extra work than feel like an idiot later. Gone are the days of my legs (and arm pits) looking like Bigfoot’s sister.
Tell me your awkward shaving story. Come on I shared me, share yours in the comments below.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I so love using shaving cream too but when I run out I always forget to buy more when I’m at the store. OMG – I laughed out loud when I read the like about not looking like Bigfoot’s sister that is too funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a scar on my left knee from where I tried to trim leg hair with scissors when I was a kid…

The first time I shaved my legs was at a friend’s house. We got her dad’s razor, with the double edge you drop the blade into, and we both got cuts. And boy, did they bleed. After that, her mom showed us how.
