I don’t know about you all but we get flies in the house when the weather gets warmer. It seems that no matter what we do it just doesn’t seem to keep them out. We get sprayed every three months to ensure we remain bug free but the flies seem to not be affected by the spray. Of course after reading an article on keeping the flies away I have some opinions about it.
I was thrilled that they didn’t suggest those fly strips. I can’t stand those things! I always seem to walk into them and then end up with them stuck to my head. I would love to meet the person who invented those and stick a bunch to their hair and see how they like it. You all know what I mean. I have heard of the bags of water hanging that was mentioned before. My uncle did that when he was living in his own house. While that worked I just don’t like the look of it. I have also heard that they hate the color yellow but what I didn’t know was that in order for it work I would have cover my entire house in the color.
So I wonder if yellow houses have flies at all? Maybe I need to think about painting the house? It was just a thought and it wouldn’t work with my luck. The best way to keep flies away is to prevent them. I try very hard to do this but of course I live out int he country which is difficult. The most interesting thing in the article was that they are attracted to the color blue and that if I was going to use one of the zapper lights then use a blue bulb. And of course put it far enough away to draw the flies to it but not right up at the house.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Oh I guess for me…I love our cold winter months without them! 🙂 Summers…oh they can be horrible. We just use the fly swatter if they come in the house. I would not want one of those sticky things…ick!

I’ve never had much of a problem with regular houseflies, but oh man, I hate fruit flies! Every summer, they descend on my kitchen and make me miserable. I use a homemade trap to keep the population down, just some vinegar, fruit, and a drop or two of dish soap in a small jar with a rubber band securing a plastic-wrap cover that has holes punched in it, just big enough so the fruit flies can get in but can’t get out. I’m with you about those sticky fly paper things–they’re nasty, and cruel, too.

I’ve only found one trap that truly works for flies and not only is it unsightly, it STINKS. I’ve had great luck with mosquito repellents from Pinterest but absolutely no luck with any for flies.
