Friday Cocktails – May 20, 2022

May 20, 2022 | Rita

Friday Cocktails May 20 2022

Friday has rolled around again, which means it is time for Friday Cocktails! We are a little more than halfway through the month, and I will tell y’all that I have had the best month. There were appointments early in the month, but they all came out well. There are still a few things to take care of, but all in all, I am happy with the way things are going health wise.

The senior citizens are doing well too. I can’t even begin to tell you how thankful I am for that. My uncle’s leg surgery came out perfectly. In fact, he went and ate at the all-you-can-eat place after it was all over and he was released. We splurged a little that day. It was a great day, if not hot. We sat outside most of the day waiting. Since only one of us could be in the waiting room, we traded off as much as we could. I made a point of letting my mother sit in there as much as possible.

The weather here has been more like summer weather than spring weather, although I admit that I am more than a little happy about that. I have been getting a great tan and have been able to do much more walking than I have in the last two months. I can’t tell you how happy I am about that.

Friday Cocktails May 20 - Updates and More

I have been working on meal planning this week. I haven’t been making meals, but one thing I have begun doing is making myself a snack box every morning. It is just a box of healthy snacks such as grapes, apple slices, nuts, cheese, etc. that I can snack on all day. I don’t allow myself to eat any sort of snack that isn’t in that box. I will tell you, it has not been easy. Especially since the senior citizens like to have sweets all the time. Another thing has been to cut out soda drinking.

That has been the hardest. I have cut myself down to one a day. I struggle with it daily, and on some days I have to have the nerve of steel to stop myself from drinking more. I have started carrying a water bottle with me everywhere I go, so I can stay hydrated and not be tempted to grab a soda.

Another struggle has been breakfast. For breakfast, there are only so many things that I can eat. So I made the decision that I would have oatmeal with fruit Monday through Friday. That makes it easy and I can eat it quickly if I have plans for the day. Plus, oatmeal is the sort of meal that sticks to your ribs. It keeps me full. On Saturdays, I have begun going to my favorite French café in town and allowing myself a proper French breakfast with coffee.

It is the only day of the week that I have coffee. Although I don’t do that every single week. I picked up coffee a couple of years ago and was surprised at how easy it was. I went from having three or four cups a day to rarely having any. I do drink orange juice a lot when I am there. They do “fresh squeeze.” On Sundays, I make a full breakfast for us at home. We do family breakfast and dinner on Sundays.

This week was kind of terrible. Our dog was sick all week and it was a mess everyday. Also, my husband took his car to the mechanic for a routine oil change but they screwed it up and now the car is leaking oil everywhere. It needs a new part and it won’t come in until June so my husband has to drive my car until then. I hope next week will be better!

Sounds like your week was pretty great! We skipped spring, too and it is much too hot for me! My daughter had labs this week, the new blood pressure meds they gave her is working great but the tradeoff is that her labs showed her potassium is critically high so now along with the low sodium diet, she is now on a low potassium diet…I was having a hard time coming up with food for supper with the one, now I have to keep up with two! Oh well~ My granddaughter had 2 dentist appointments this week and they were supposed to refer her to a TMJ specialist, but they don’t take the insurance for that and it is going to cost us 375 for the visit!!!!! Needless to say that will have to wait! Hope you have another great week!
