Friday Conversations - August 2, 2024

Another week has ended and it’s again time for Friday Conversations where we share what happened in our lives this week, find something funny, a little encouragement, and more.

my week and how it was

My week was filled with grocery shopping which by the way is such a huge task. I had to go to Sam’s Club (we don’t have a Costco nearby) and then over to Winn-Dixie. I love Winn-Dixie and actually worked for them years ago. They were having a great BOGO sale which helped my bottom line.

I also finally watched Queenpins on Netflix and it was really good. I had a good laugh and ended up googling what really happened. I managed a couple of good naps this week as well. That has been pretty much it for us. It rains every afternoon, at least for the last week it has, which makes me sleepy.

This week has simply been a pretty slow week for us and to be honest, I think I needed it that way. See y’all next month!

smile a smile this week

Just a couple of Instagram posts that made me smile a little this week. I thought they would make you smile as well.

I just love all of her teacher posts. Miss Smith though is a character I love to watch. I am also waiting for the day Miss Smith gets punched in the face because trust me y’all there have been times when I’m not sure I would have been able to hold myself back. That’s probably why God said teaching was not for me.

Don’t be turning down her tunes! This gal knows what she likes and she wants to hear it loud. I am right there with you girly! Regardless of whether I am listening to show tunes, country music, rock, or Gregorian chants I want them loud.

Tell me this is not the cutest thing ever! Watch it til the end and hear the little ducks as the water boils. It is simply too cute for words.

Those were just a few of the things that made me smile this week. Of course I am going to be honest with you and tell you that sometimes there are things on Instagram (and other social media) that make me laugh that I could not share over here at all. Y’all know y’all laugh at things like that too.

whats cooking this week

I started meal planning to help me in the grocery store a little more. We shop monthly and well lets be honest sometimes I don’t buy enough of something or I buy too much of something else. So, I thought I would share what our dinner plans are for next week and see what you think.

  1. Monday: Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese from McDonald’s. We were in town all day and this was something quick and easy. I know it wasn’t something I needed but there you go.
  2. Tuesday: Grilled Steaks with Baked Potatoes and Salad. I make the potatoes in the Crockpot to make things easier. Just pop them in (whole) and you can wrap them in foil. Add a little water then let them do their thing.
  3. Wednesday: Porch Chops and Yellow Rice with Veggies (I never know what vegetables I am doing until the day of. Mostly because I don’t always know which ones we are in the mood for). I pan fry the pork chops in a little olive oil and make sure to season them well.
  4. Thursday: Hamburger Helper (It’s the Hamburger Mac one and my uncle loves this even though we don’t have it often) It’s an easy meal and gives me time to get plenty of errands done during the day.
  5. Friday: Fish and Hushpuppies
  6. Saturday: Hotdogs with chips and slaw. Saturdays tend to be easy meal days.
  7. Sunday: Roast with potatoes, carrots, and onions. Dinner rolls and a couple for other veggies. Always a family style dinner no matter what is going on.
a moment of peace and quiet

I thought I take the time to share three things that you can do or read for a little self care, a moment of peace and quiet or more.

  1. Bird Watching: Did you know that just 30 minutes of bird watching can make us happier & healthier? That is what research shows. If there are any birdwatchers out there tell me how much you like it? I think I want to start doing it. It would be a good way to get outside more and I live in the country so this could be fun.
  2. Read: As someone who reads all the time I know this may sound a little dumb. However, if you are an avid reader I suggest taking the time to pick up a great book and lose yourself in the world the author created. It will certainly help you find a little peace and quiet.
  3. Weekend Market: Okay, stay with me on this one. While it is not necessarily quiet at one of these if your town (or one near you) has a weekend market then I suggest you go to it. Even if you don’t buy a single thing you will find something soothing about the slowness of the market. I always love going to one.

This week I was supposed to do online training for a new job I’ll be starting in September. My supervisor never sent me the training link so I’m confused as to whether training is postponed or somehow the email message never got to me.
