Can you believe January is almost over? It feels like just yesterday we were ringing in the new year. This week has been a whirlwind, but as always, there’s plenty to share.
This Week in the wilderness
I’ve been in a decluttering frenzy, tackling everything from junk drawers to old email inboxes. It’s amazing how much stuff can accumulate over the years. Of course, now I have a pile of “maybe keep” items that I’ll probably sort through sometime in 2025.
Life at Shady Pines free range seniors
Ma decided to try her hand at online shopping this week and accidentally ordered 10 pounds of flour. She claims it was “a great deal,” so I’m bracing myself for a baking marathon. Uncle R, on the other hand, found a harmonica he bought decades ago and has been serenading us with off-key renditions of old folk songs. Let’s just say the dog is not a fan.
Hot Flashes & More the joys of midlife
This week, I discovered the joy of compression socks. Laugh all you want, but they’ve been a game-changer for my tired feet. Also, I’ve realized that “comfortable shoes” are now a top priority in life. Who needs stilettos when you can have arch support? Also if anyone actually has a picture of me in stilettos lets burn those please!
What’s Cooking for dinner tonight
I started meal planning to help me in the grocery store a little more. WE shop monthly and well lets be honest sometimes I don’t buy enough of something or I buy too much of something else. So, I thought I would share what our dinner plans are for next week and see what you think.
- Monday: Chicken Alfredo with steamed broccoli.
- Tuesday: Beef stew with crusty bread.
- Wednesday: Turkey burgers with sweet potato fries.
- Thursday: Lasagna with a side Caesar salad.
- Friday: Fish tacos with a zesty lime slaw.
- Saturday: Grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches (quick and cozy!).
- Sunday: Roast turkey with stuffing, green beans, and a pecan pie for dessert.
A Moment of peace and quiet
This week was a little walk each day. Again, nothing major but it helps. I have been doing one little thing each day each week so far this year as a way to have a moment of peace and quiet to myself. A small walk in the neighborhood close to the house in case I fall gave me a chance to get outside and breathe in the fresh, although cold, air.

My husband was in Spain on business last week and a couple of days after returning home, he realized he was sick. A day later I was sick as a dog. It was awful. I’m still not 100% but at least I don’t feel like I’m dying anymore. My husband definitely didn’t get as sick as I did.
My week has been good, buy Brrr it is cold, not usually this cold in Florida. We did not get any snow here as we’re a little too far south, but it hasn’t been this cold here in about 20 years! Little one was sick, but she’s doing much better and my oldest got an A on her speech!
Lots of doctors appointments and lots of driving and waiting in waiting rooms. I am ready for the weekend hope you have a nice one too.
I had a busy week. Going through all the rooms looking for things to donate. Getting rid of the clutter.
I’ve had a pretty good week so far but it’s a little to cold for my taste.
It’s been stressful, though I’m looking forward to a brief trip next week!
Got more chronic pain happening this week. Also, a pipe in the bathroom burst and we had to get a plumber here. It’s all fixed. Hoping to have a relaxing weekend watching Playoffs football ! 🙂
I had to take my mom to the ER for dizziness and eye pain/pressure. Thankfully, tests were clear BUT her blood pressure was through the week. This week was getting updated medication, follow up with her doctor, and purchasing an arm blood pressure cuff. Thankfully, she feels fine.
I snowed here this week! We rarely get snow, so the kids and I had a lot of fun building snowmen and just enjoying being outside!
The kids started swimming lessons and my hubby was on a business trip so it was busy busy busy!
It was an okay week. Nothing special going on.
My week was rough; it’s been very challenging at work
Crazy week! Getting ready to move, so doing every last thing from oil change to doctors appointments!
Chaotic week as I make a huge decision
I had a good week.
It was a slow week, trying to get my energy back after having flu.
Lazy week. My son had a basketball game he lost it but he tried. I’m proud of him. I’ve been cleaning and reading. Hope your week was well.
