Friday Conversations – March 7, 2025

Friday Conversations - March 7, 2025

I don’t know what’s going on around here lately, but I’m starting to think my house is actively working against me. Between the missing socks, mystery noises, and things disappearing into thin air, I might need to call in a paranormal investigator—or at the very least, organize a search party. Either way, it’s been another week of trying to stay one step ahead of the chaos.

This Week in the wilderness

Laundry day reminded me that I may never solve the age-old mystery of where socks disappear to. I started the wash with 12 perfectly matched pairs and ended up with nine lonely singles. I checked the washer, the dryer, and even the laundry basket like I was a detective looking for clues. Nothing. I’m now convinced there’s a secret sock portal in my house that leads to another dimension. Either that, or Ma and Uncle R are running a black-market sock operation behind my back.

Life at Shady Pines free range seniors

Ma saw an ad for a “senior-friendly” phone on Amazon and decided Uncle R needed one. Only she didn’t realize she had accidentally ordered a toy phone. When it arrived, Uncle R took one look and said, “Well, at least I won’t butt-dial anyone anymore!” He now proudly displays it on his nightstand like it’s a legitimate backup plan.

Hot Flashes & More the joys of midlife

There’s something so special about friendships in midlife. These are the people who’ve seen you through bad haircuts, questionable life choices, and every version of yourself. They don’t need small talk; they just show up with coffee and snacks when you need them. A solid midlife friendship is like a well-worn sweatshirt—soft, comforting, and always the perfect fit.

What’s Cooking for dinner tonight

I started meal planning to help me in the grocery store a little more. We shop monthly and well lets be honest sometimes I don’t buy enough of something or I buy too much of something else. So, I thought I would share what our dinner plans are for next week and see what you think.

  1. Monday: Creamy Potato Soup with Cheddar and Chives, served with Biscuits
  2. Tuesday: Cajun Shrimp Pasta with Garlic Bread
  3. Wednesday: Chicken Pot Pie with a Mixed Green Salad
  4. Thursday: Beef Stir-Fry with Vegetables and Jasmine Rice
  5. Friday: Lemon Herb Cod with Roasted Asparagus and Wild Rice
  6. Saturday: BBQ Chicken Sandwiches with Coleslaw
  7. Sunday: Roasted Pork Tenderloin, Sweet Potato Casserole, Green Beans Almondine, and Pecan Pie

A Moment of peace and quiet

Instead of falling into my usual routine of watching TV until I dozed off, I carved out a quiet evening with a book I’d been meaning to read for months. A cozy blanket, a warm cup of tea, and getting lost in a story—it reminded me how nice it is to unplug and let my mind slow down.

This week my husband and I had many discussions about whether or not to buy a car. We’ve been managing with just one car for more than a year, but lately that’s becoming more and more impractical. But car prices are ridiculous, and it pains me to have to spend that kind of money. So we haven’t pulled the trigger yet, and we keep discussing it. It stresses me out and I’ve lost sleep over it.

I had a doctor’s appointment and also had a blood test. I have one more doctor’s appointment this month and a dentist appointment.

It’s been a pretty rough week. We had some pretty rough winds and they knocked a light wire loose and I was seeing and hearing the sparks from it.

My week was normal. Cleaned a lot, read a lot, homeschooled my kids, and we got a new walking pad one of those small treadmills. I like it and I hope to use it a lot. We’re all finally over whatever sickness we all had. Hope you had a great week.

We all got sick! Recovery is slow and we all feel icky. The adult kiddo is the latest and the worst. Ugh!

Not a great week. Dealing with health issues ad car problems.

I read 3 books this week and then I hit a bit of a slump. Been watching the new season of Drive to Survive all weekend. 🙂

Another crazy week – selling my house, buying a house, packing up a house mostly by myself… it’s a LOT

I’ve been a bit under the weather the last week. Hopefully next week will be better.

I spent most of it caring for a friend’s home and pets while she was in the hospital. It was over 35 degrees out though so that’s a big plus!
