Teen driving can be a scary thought and knowing that we are getting ready to have teen driver is all the scarier. I mean I am the worst driver in the world and I am going to be expected to teach someone else how to drive. I remember when my father taught me to drive and well let’s just say that he only got in the car with me once or twice. After that he left the task up to my brothers.
State Farm conducted a survey of parents of teens drivers and teen drivers themselves asking for their thoughts on parental monitoring and graduated driver licensing (GDL) which we have here in Georgia. One finding of the survey was that parents were significantly more likely than teens to list safety as the most important reason to follow GDL laws (89 percent vs. 51 percent, respectively). Safety should be the most important issue when driving. As parents and society as a whole, preparing teen drivers to pass strong Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) can help make safety #1 to teen drivers in order to receive their drivers license.
State Farm believes that encouraging teens & making safety a top priority can be achieved through awareness and commitment to building safe driving habits for teens. That is why State Farm created the Celebrate My Drive program. I must say that I really love this program! It encourages teens to consider the excitement of the road ahead while committing to safer driving skills. Since crashes are the number 1 killer of teens State Farm is asking teens, families, and friends to unite their communities & commit to safe driving during National Teen Driver Safety Week, Oct 18th-26th (and beyond.) Schools will have a chance to earn grants & even a concert by Kelly Clarkson! Which means the kids will be all over this!!

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Oh boy I’m scared about when my kids are teens & old enough to drive. I’m sure they’ll be (mostly) responsible, as they’re very well behaved. But still…scary.

We only have one more of six to get a driver’s license, and she just turned 14. I still worry about my teen son driving due to peer pressure to go outside of the GDL. I think he’s doing OK>
Pretty cool that State Farm is doing a rewards promotion for kids, but honestly, I think growing up and having the privilege to drive should be enough and not reward kids to obey the laws and practice safe driving.

We have State Farm insurance. I like what they are doing with their teen driving campaign.

I am sooo glad that my son was able to learn to drive at school. Here he had to drive with a licensed driver for a year with his permit before he could get his own. We made sure that his dad and I were those licensed drivers. He is a good driver, better than me to be sure. I think this is a wonderful campaign. Our kids are our most valuable assets!

I’m sure that it can be scary! I’d probably have been like you, so nervous that it would be better to leave it to someone else! I still remember my dad teaching me to drive, but also professional lessons, where they have a brake on the passenger’s side and he used it liberally! I still recall being at Motor Vehicle and the lady before me went for her driving test, pulled out of the parking lot, and immediately hit a sign. No license for her that day! I’m sure his brothers will make sure he gets good training and practice that he’ll be a good driver. Being a parent of a teen(s) is not easy! Even when they are almost perfect!

I think the best thing most states did was to add the GDL law. I know that it is tough when kids have their friends in the car. they get distracted way to easily. I really like that in our state new teen drivers can’t drive with anyone other then family for the first 6 months. I think it gives them a chance to earn more experience driving. This is a great program state Farms is doing.

I am so glad that companies like State Farm have programs to draw light to teen driving issues. It is a good thing to have a GDL program. Teens get to crazy when they are in the car together the restrictions on teen licenses certainly cut down on this problem.
