Tomorrow is my birthday and while I would normally be taking the day (at least) off I will in fact be working. It is funny how when you are growing older that birthdays don’t have the same meaning they did when you were a child. I remember how much I used to love my birthdays and how once when I was a teen my family actually forgot my birthday.
I never had large parties or anything, in fact the first birthday party I ever had without sharing it with my sister was just a few years ago. Her birthday is ten days before mine so we always had to share a party, cake or whatever it was. As a child this upset me but now as an adult I could care less. I don’t feel any older although I am pushing 40.
I tell everyone it is because Ma lives in the house with me and she treats me like I am still 10 years old. Maybe that is the truth or maybe not, who knows. Whenever I go to the grocery store or do something “grown up” afterwards I always have this feeling like “WOW I am a grown-up!” My brother laughs at me but the truth is most of the time I really feel as though I am much younger. Again I think it has to do with how I am treated by most of my family members.
So this year I am celebrating my own way! I have some work that I want to get done and then I am going to bake myself a cake and just enjoy some time with my family. Who knows maybe next year I will actually feel and look my age!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Happy Birthday!!! My brother is 355 days younger than me—less than a year apart with birthdays exactly 10 apart. We always had shared parties on the weekend between when we were little.
My grandmother used to say that saying “Happy Birthday” really means saying that “I am glad you were born.” Now that I am getting (much!) older, I like to think of that rather than count the number of years 🙂

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I just turned 40 on the 4th and I don’t feel any different, I celebrated alone, although my mom always brings me a gift bag. Ii believe we’re only as old as we feel ( mentally- not physically because if that was the case then I’d feel ancient sometimes lol). I hope you enjoy your cake and have a wonderful stress free relaxing time after all work is done.

I am over 40 and still enjoy my birthdays but in a different way. I thank my mother for raising me and on nearing me her support and love all these years. I also love me some good chocolate cake. Even though I may not make it (again, thanks mom!).
