Halloween with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Oct 29, 2011 | Rita

Today we had the opportunity to have a wonderful Halloween screening party of sorts. Disney’s Pirates  of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides hit the stores on October 18th. We were lucky enough to be provided with everything we needed to have a great Halloween party. However since our weather took a turn for colder temps we decided at the last minute to change it up a bit.  Instead of having the kids running around outside where it was more than a little chilly we partied inside and watched Pirates of the Caribbean: On stranger Tides in true pirate fashion.

We were sent plates, cups, a banner, a treasure chest pinata (my kids LOVE pinatas!), eye patches, tattoos, mustaches, treasure maps, gold coins, and 6 (yes 6) Blue-ray/DVD combo sets of the film. the banner was actually much larger but it was much too large for my window so I cut it and put up around the table as well.  The small chests were party favors that the kids got to  decorate with jewels. The each received a Pirates bandana as well to well and “Yo Ho” with the best of them.

The treasure maps were great because I hid the movie (the ones each of the kids took home I put into goody bags and gave them to them at the end) and had them hunt for what we would be watching. Although they were fairly smart, they knew it was a pirate movie they just didn’t know which one. We ordered pizzas, popped popcorn, and all gathered around the TV and fireplace. The kids all said it was one of the best days they had. The weather has been fickle lately and they haven’t been able to go outside much. I tried ot make sure everyone had a good time.

The pinata breaking was a little tricky. My children are Hispanic and we have pinatas at every party. A few of their friends however are not and not sure how to actually play the game. there is a game involved and Edgar was more than happy to be the official pinata puller. What is a pinata puller? It’s the person who holds the string and pulls the pinata up and down as the kids attempt to break it. The biggest issue is when the pinata breaks. Kids attack it there is no tomorrow.  So to make sure each kid got some candy I put a tarp under the  pinata and then I gathered the candy and divided it up equally into their goody bags.

The movie was GREAT! I found my self laughing and feeling a little sad for Jack Sparrow at various parts. The kids laughed and the girls loved the mermaids. We also decorated a pumpkin, the picture will have to wait until I get it taken in the dark! The kids were all screaming about what to put on it. It was all in all one of the best days I have had with 6 kids in a long time. they all want to do it again next year!

Wow! Sounds like an excellent party! What a great job you did–sounds like the kids had an amazing time. I love the decorations! That is a very cool idea to put the banner around the table. I’m sure it’s a party the kids will never forget. 🙂
