Now that summer has unofficially began I am sure that you are trying to figure out what to do with the kids since they are home all day. There are plenty of days that we will be heading to the movies. One of the things I love is that we have a discount theater but even if we didn’t there is still the afternoon matinee which is much cheaper than a show at night.
I don’t know how much the movies are where you are but I recently read that in Georgia the cost of going to the movies is about $9.94 which isn’t that bad. Before you all start commenting about how crazy I am let me explain. I live in a tourist town where the biggest thing is the state park or another park sort of place that cost about $20 per person to get into and there isn’t much to do if you’ve done it before.
So we will be heading to the movies and when we head out to our vacation we will be going to the movies as well. Since we will be in South Carolina I checked the average cost there and it is around $7.53. That article I read said that the movies in the 50’s only cost 69 cents. Can you imagine? I can remember when they were like four dollars but other than the dollar theater I have never paid less than a dollar. I can remember my father telling me about paying for a movie and being able to stay at the theater all day watching cowboy movies.
The average for the country is about $10.61 and Georgia is above that but sometimes you just have to roll with it. Of course the article also said that Atlanta is one of the most expensive cities int he country to buy a movie ticket to. I can tell you that years ago I took three of my nephews and nieces to a theater in Atlanta and I almost passed out at the total I had to pay. We aren’t even going to talk about the price of snacks. There are some places around the country though where you can watch a movie for less than five dollars and that is not even a cheap theater.
The reason I like to take the kids to the movies during the summer is that it allows us to be inside the air conditioning (it’s hot outside!) and they can do something that don’t do during the school year. It’s a treat for them but one for me as well.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
