As you all know I am a part of the Shaklee180 which means I am looking for ways to not only lose weight but to eat healthier for both me and my family. Well ice cream is something we love but I had given it up as part of my diet. That was until I discovered Yonanas which is not really ice cream but a great alternative! Yonanas takes frozen bananas (other other fruits) and turns them into healthy soft serve that you can your family can enjoy.
I admit I was unsure but after trying the machine I have a new delicious treat that I can have without a lot of the calories. The kids love it and I will say that it does take some trial and error before you get it perfect. What you do is take bananas that are spotted like a cheetah (if they are not then nothing will taste good.) Peel them and put them into a bag or container and pop them into the fridge.
It is suggested that you let them freeze for at least 24 hours but I have found that 48 works better. When you are ready you take them out of the freezer and let them thaw a little while. Now this is where it gets tricky, because if they are too frozen the machine will not work as well and they get stuck in there. Too thawed and you have a mess. There is no trick either you just have to keep trying until you find the perfect time.
Once you are ready just drop them into the machine and run them through. Be sure to place a bowl under the spout and you have soft serve banana “ice cream.” You don’t have to use just bananas you can blend in other fruit or even use melons for a sorbet. There are plenty of recipes on the Yonanas site. This little machine has given me back a favorite summertime treat and I can’t wait to do some sorbet.

I’d make something with chocolate 🙂 I think maybe banana, raspberry, and chocolate—yum!

I am so fascinated with this machine! It sounds like a great idea and the product looks yummy. I would like to see a demo and try it before buying, though. I wonder where I could see it in action…

Sounds interesting. I have to say that I’m a little skeptical, but if it worked my wife would love this. She has been looking for ways to get vegan soft serve. I’ll have to think about this one a little more…

Yummy, I love ice cream, I remember when I was little we use to go out and get fresh snow and mom made ice cream, not something I would recommend today, this is cool.

I make a shake almost every day, but thick, more like ice cream. I use frozen blueberries, banana, frozen strawberries, protein powder, vanilla greek yogurt, a few slices of peaches and some vanilla almond milk. I add powdered probiotics just before serving and stir. MMm…one of my meals most days.

Thanks for the thorough review! I have seen this product and wondered how well it worked. I am trying to eat better this year and this sounded like a good alternative to ice cream. I think I would try a banana strawberry the first time.

I would love this. As a kid we would always get homemade ice cream on our birthdays and I have continued that tradition with my kids, but this machine would make it healthier. I would love to try some chocolate.

This sounds great. We love banana ice-cream, but lots of times, it doesn’t have enough banana flavor. I guess this thing would have lots of flavor!

The meaning of the phrase “ice cream” varies from one country to another. Phrases such as “frozen custard”, “frozen yogurt”, “sorbet”, “gelato” and others are used to distinguish different varieties and styles. In some countries, such as the United States, the phrase “ice cream” applies only to a specific variety, and most governments regulate the commercial use of the various terms according to the relative quantities of the main ingredients.
