Help Your Scalp Stay Healthy

If you want your hair to look as luscious and lovely as a shampoo commercial model, you need to take good care of not only your hair but also your scalp. In fact, ensuring your scalp is healthy is probably more important! Thankfully, it is actually very easy to keep your scalp in good condition.

Check out these quick tips to help your scalp stay healthy:

No Hot Water

When you’re washing your hair, you should never use really hot water because it can be very harsh on the scalp. Ideally, you should use water which is lukewarm and ensure that you thoroughly rinse any shampoo and conditioner, which could irritate the scalp and build up in the hair, with every wash.

Be Gentle

If you want a scalp that isn’t too dry, irritated or flaky, you need to use gentle products. Shampoos and conditioners which are as close to natural as possible will take much less of a toll on your sensitive scalp area than chemically heavy concoctions, which is why they are the better choice.

It is also vital that, if you must use heat to style your hair, you set your hairdryer or straighteners to a low heat, which will avoid injuries and stop your hair from becoming very damaged.

Wash Less Often

If you usually wash your hair every day, STOP! There are few things worse for the scalp (and your hair) than over washing because it strips the hair and scalp of vital oils, which protect them. Instead, wash your hair between 1-3 times a week depending on how quickly it gets dirty and greasy, and you’ll notice a big difference in your hair and scalp health.

Use Tea Tree Oil

If you suffer from painful and embarrassing scalp problems, according to the HomeRemedyShop team, tea tree oil can be used to get rid of sebaceous cysts, flaking and inflamed skin, dandruff, and redness of the scalp. It can be applied directly to the affected area to clear up and problems and leave you with a healthier head.

Head Massage

Massaging your head is not only incredibly relaxing – it can help to improve the health of your scalp too. By stimulating the scalp for 2-3 minutes, as seen here, you will increase blood flow to the area, which will help to maintain its health.

Exfoliate

You exfoliate your face and body, but do you exfoliate your scalp? Most people don’t even think about doing such a thing, but using an exfoliating mask on the scalp once per week will get rid of dead skin cells, which might otherwise flake into the hair, and improve the softness of your scalp.

Use ZPT Containing Products

If you suffer from serious dandruff problems, try to find hair products that contain Zinc Pyrithone (ZPT) which is one of the best ingredients for tackling the embarrassing problem. Commonly found shampoos like Head and Shoulders contain ZPT, so you don’t have to spend a lot of money to keep on top of the problem.

Simply by paying a bit more attention to your scalp, you can get the good looking hair and healthy scalp you’ve always dreamed of.
