When I first came across A Highlander’s Passion on NetGalley I didn’t realize it was the second book of a series. It stands up very well on its own and had I not fallen in love with the characters I wouldn’t have bothered to see out the first book and am now waiting on bated breath for the third. To say this book is good is an understatement. I actually caught myself reading some it out to my brother over the phone (its got some super funny parts!!)
As a bear-shifter in a pack roaming the Scottish countryside, Bryce Matheson embodies brute force and untamed abandon. As a widower, he’s running scared. When Bryce attempted to open his scarred heart to another, she grew tired of waiting for him to state his intentions, and the unearthly beauty spurned him for someone who wasn’t worthy. But now that fate has conspired to set Kenzie Denune free once again, Bryce vows to finally win her love.
Kenzie is a witch who summons her powers to protect those too weak to care for themselves. After surviving an abusive husband, she swears off men—even men like Bryce, whose iron muscles make her knees weak, and whose piercing eyes fill her with longing. Her life’s purpose is to help others. However, dark forces have different plans for her gifts. To save herself, Kenzie must team up with the shifter who has always stirred her soul—and trust in a passion powerful enough to set her blood aflame.
I was a bit unsure about the whole shifter and witch theme but men in kilts got me! What can I say! Kenzie has loved Bryce for as long as she could remember and when he fell in love with his wife she felt heartbroken. However four years after his wife’s death he begins a relationship with Kenzie which he ends suddenly leaving her heartbroken all over again. She turns to Duncan whom she marries and is abusive. He is killed in the first book of this series and Kenzie is now free to move on and Bryce knows just who he wants her to move on with…..him.
He knew he made a mistake before and won’t do it again. There are a lot of things they have to overcome, his fear of commitment, her fear of men, secrets they both have kept for years, and the fact that her father wants to kill her because he made a pact with the devil. However they don’t have to go it alone as Bryce’s brothers are there to help. Not to mention Effie {Kenzie’s new employer, Bryce’s sister in-law’s Gram, and a high priestess} who wears a pink wig and with her bawdy American sense of humor had me laughing out loud. Effie is great! There is a whole scene in the hospital where is telling Bryce police office cousin Kendric about a “wee” weapon she may have. Not to mention Bryce’s daughter, Colleen, who give very informative speeches and can spot dirty magazines from across the room! This is a MUST read! Although I do feel I should tell you that there is strong language and sexual situations in this book. They don’t take anything away from the book itself. I loved it!!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
