Holiday Gift Guide: Mermelada {A Sassy Sweet Red from Spain}

Nov 05, 2012 | Rita

Here is another great wine for you Holiday Gift giving list this year. It is Mermelada, a sassy sweet red that comes from Spain and is in a beautiful bottle. The grapes that make Mermelada have a prolonged contact with their skin which makes it much more full-bodied. They are a blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot which I am sure means something to all of you wine enthusiasts. For me all I ever know is if a wine tastes good or not.

The tasting notes (which you know I like to share) says that the color is a deep red, black cherry, bright plum which I will agree with 100%. They also say the taste is sweet plum, raspberry, and pomegranate. Since this was only my second taste of anything with pomegranate in it the flavor was much more noticeable to me. My husband who eats them all the time did not notice it as strongly as I did.

It is suggested that this wine be paired with strong cheeses, Thai food, pizza, and hamburgers. My suggestion is to have it with hamburgers first because you will not believe the taste. We grilled burgers and had Mermelada with them and I could not believe how the wine made the burgers taste so much better or maybe it was the other way around. Who knows but there was an explosion of taste in my mouth that I just cannot explain. This bottle lasted only through one dinner and is one that we will be purchasing again.

If you have a girlfriend that is a wine drinker then this is the perfect wine for her. The bottle itself is very feminine and since it pairs so easily with everyday dishes it is sure to become her new favorite.

    Never would’ve thought to pair with burgers, this would be a great gift for a friend of mine
