Holiday Gift Guide: Miyako Ceramics

Oct 19, 2011 | Rita

The holiday season is upon us and whether you are shopping for the chef in your life or are going to preparing all those holiday meals you will need the right equipment.  Every kitchen needs good knives and the sharper the knife, the better. Miyako Ceramics have knives like I have never seen before.

From Miyako Ceramics Website:
Not all ceramic knives are created equal. On the outside, they can look and feel the same, but after a bit of use, their differences quickly become apparent. Miyako Ceramics has taken extra steps to ensure that all of our ceramic knives are a cut above the competition. We pay extra attention to all the details to give you a knife as only Miyako can. Every ceramic knife we manufacture includes all of these features:Stunning High Gloss Finish, Precisely Honed Cutting Edge, Super Soft Ultra-Comfort Handle, Extensive Quality Assurance, and Extra Hard Ceramic

TESTING Miyako Ceramics:

I received three products from Miyako Ceramics to try out and I will tell you I could not have been happier. First I had never even seen a ceramic knife let alone used one. Now I will never go back! The first item I received was a 6″ Chef Knife. I like the 6″ because I have small hands and it fits perfectly. I use my knife all the time. The blade was sharp enough to cut through potatoes without a second thought but gentle enough to slice a tomato without making mush out of it.

The other items I received was a Ceramic Paring Knife and Peeler Set.  I use a paring knife a lot to peel potatoes and such because to be honest I am not very good with a peeler. I did, in the interest of reviewing, use the peeler and found that using it was much easier than a standard steel peeler. It seemed to glide across the potato doing all of the work.

PROS of Miyako Ceramics:

  • Easy to clean. you just rinse it off and it’s clean
  • Sharp! These items do what they say they will do
  • Beautiful pieces that deserve to be showcased in your kitchen
  • Not as delicate as they seem

CONS of Miyako Ceramics:

  • Not dishwasher safe but just hand washing takes seconds
  • While they do not need to be sharpened as often as steel knives when they get sharpened it must be with a diamond sharpener

I like the design of the ergonomic handle! It does look comfortable to grip. Sounds like they have great products.
