It’s the holidays and time to break out all of the holiday movies! I love doing that on the weekends with the family during this time of the year. There are so many movies that I love but I thought I would share a few of my favorites and then give three of you a chance to win them all for yourselves. Of course I need to thank the wonderful women over at The Mommy Island, and The Kids Did It. They always have great hops for us.
You will find us gathered around the television more during the holidays. It is a great way to spend some time with the family and have a good time without spending a lot of money. Also, right now, it makes social distancing easier.
1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
This is a classic in our home! In fact, we used to joke that our father was attempting to be Clark whenever he began decorating the house. One year, just before he passed away, we were driving through a town and saw a sign in a yard. We slowed down to read it and noticed their house had won the decorating contest. My dad said “Look at that, they got the Griswold Award!” The movie is so funny and we love watching it.
2. A Christmas Story
“You’ll shoot your eye out!” You sang that didn’t you? This was one of dad’s favorites so we grew up watching it. Now I enjoy it with my little ones. No matter how many times I watch it, this movie still makes me laugh. It also always reminds of my dad laughing at the antics in it. It is a great way to bring a little of his spirit to us during his favorite time of the year.
3. Die Hard
This is totally a Christmas movie! Sure not everyone is all jolly and happy. It’s not really kid appropriate but hey us adults love it and my siblings and I watch every year. We do try to watch it together so we can say the lines before the actors. It’s one of those movies that you love when the bad guy gets it in the end.
4. A Christmas Carol
I like the one with George C. Scott the best. I don’t know why. Maybe it is because it is the first one I can remember watching. Whatever it is this one if my favorite. It is a timeless movie that I watch every single year. It is also one I take very good care of since my father bought it for me years ago.
5. It’s a Wonderful Life
If you’re going to watch this movie then you have to watch it in black and white. Of course, I have to tell all the younger people there is nothing wrong with the television every time I put it on. It was made that way. I think color just takes away from the timelessness (is that a word?) of this movie magic.
6.Home For the Holidays
Okay, this one actually takes place over Thanksgiving. If you haven’t watch it, you should. If you have… this is my family. Right down to “Get in the house before the neighbors see you.” Although I think my grandma said before we were on the evening news. It’s that sort of crazy and we love watching it.
