Every so often it can feel as though your home just doesn’t have the same atmosphere that it used to. What used to be warm and comforting now just feels kind of stale and uninviting. This is a pretty common thing that a lot of people find at some point, and it can be pretty discouraging. After all, your home is meant to be the place where you feel the most comfortable. It should be the place where you’re able to simply forget all of your day’s troubles and relax. When your home doesn’t feel like somewhere comfortable or pleasant, being able to do that can be close to impossible. With that in mind, here are a few ways to bring new life into every room of your home.
Furnishing
The furnishing of each room is the sort of thing that far too many people look at from a purely practical standpoint. Of course, the practicalities of furnishing your home are important, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other things to consider as well. People also often make the mistake of furnishing every room the same way, instead of thinking of each room as a discreet area with different needs when it comes to furnishings. Your kitchen it’s going to feature the same design choices as the bedroom. Your kitchen is going to want to be an organized space where everything is easily accessible, while your bedroom is going to be far more focussed on comfort. A duvet is essential for creating that luxurious sense of comfort that every bedroom should have, not to mention a nice selection of throw pillows to really drive it home.
Layout
The way you lay each room out will depend on a bunch of different factors. Firstly you’ll want to think about how much space you’re actually working with and how much stuff you’re bringing into each room. Then you’ll want to consider the flow of the house as a whole. Each room should comfortably flow into one another so that they don’t end up feeling overly cramped and isolated. Sometimes it really helps to draw out rough sketches of each room from a bird’s eye view to give yourself a sense of the general layout before moving any heavy furniture.
Light
Light can have more of an impact on the way that your home feels than just about anything else. Decent lighting can take a room from feeling cramped and dingy to feeling spacious and full of life. Natural light is always going to be your best bet so try to maximize the amount of sunlight that you’re able to let into each room, but it’s also important to create a pleasant ambiance in the evenings. There are plenty of different ways to do that, but one of the most common is by using lamps throughout each room. That way not only are you able to control the light level easily, but the lamps also become a feature within the room as well.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Very true, the right lighting can really open up a room. We have led lights on sensors throughout the house so they turn on automatically when you enter each room and shut off after 15 minutes of inactivity….but, I’m ready for a change, something more welcoming and less robotic feeling.

When I was younger, I used to love moving the furniture around, but it’s been years since I’ve even thought of changing the layout of any of our rooms. Updating the layout, even with the same furniture, can be like a breath of fresh air. And I’m totally on board with the need for good lighting! It’s key in any room.

Every room in my house needs new lights. When we moved in, there weren’t even enough outlets to plug in lights.
