As a homeowner you have a big job, to make sure that the home that you have invested in is properly taken care of.

There can be a lot on your plate and you may be feeling overwhelmed and not sure exactly what you should do to make sure that your home is in good condition at all times.

The good news is that if you understand exactly what to do during every season of the year it will make your life easier. Every quarter brings challenges and knowing how to tackle them is the best way to make sure that your home stays beautiful throughout the year.

Here’s a look at home maintenance tips you should be doing during each season of the year.

Springtime

When spring comes around the weather becomes a lot warmer and flowers begin to bloom. That’s why you should arrest this changing weather to keep your home looking gorgeous.

Roof and Gutters

You must make sure that your roof and gutters are getting special attention during the springtime. This is a time when you should be doing some thorough inspection. Look for any missing or damaging shingles on your roof.

Make sure that you are cleaning out all the muck out of your gutters and your downspouts. You will need to make sure that you’re removing debris and dried leaves at two to make sure that drainage is working properly.

Search for Pesky Pests

As the weather gets warmer it should be no surprise that critters that love to crawl will start to come out of the woodwork. Check the exterior of your home.

It could serve as an entryway for these insects or rodents so that they can get into your home and turn it into their personal hotel suite.

Getting them out will be a nightmare. You don’t want to be chasing critters all over your home and busting a sweat when all you needed to do was to make sure that you sealed cracks.

Pay Attention to Plumbing

Your plumbing is one of those essential components of making your home comfy. Make sure that you are doing a thorough inspection of your outdoor and indoor faucets for leaks and damage.

Aside from that, you want to make sure that your hoses are in good condition. Check your washers as well. You want to make sure that they are not worn out and damaged.

Check Your HVAC

Now is the time to make sure that your HVAC unit is in tip-top shape. You need to ensure that you are scheduling maintenance of your HVAC units while the months are warm.

Use the time to check your heat pump and make sure that it isn’t working in tip-top shape. If it’s not, you need to get a  heat pump replacement. This is also the time for you to replace your air filters for both your heating and cooling units. If replacements are not necessary then at least make sure that everything is clean.

Summer

The summer months bring beautiful sunshine and warm summer days. The thought of frolicking at the beach may be all that’s high on your mind, but you need to make sure that you are doing some home maintenance as well.

Lawn Maintenance

Lawn care should be a top priority during the summer months. It is the perfect time to get your garden and your grass looking green and lucid.

Get rid of any weeds that you may see and bushes as well. Water your garden and your plants early in the morning or late evening, so that you can reduce water evaporation. Getting grass and plants healthy is easier than ever during the warm weather.

Inspect Outdoor Furniture

It’s also a great time to inspect any outdoor furniture you may have. No doubt you and your family will be lounging around doing those warm summer nights and enjoying each other’s company if you have a porch or a deck.

You need to make sure that you’re inspecting the furniture that you use outside to make sure that they are in good condition. Treat wooden furniture with sealants and oil and make sure that you place your pillows and your cushions in waterproof containers.

While sunshine is the order of the day there are times when you may experience a burst of showers.

Autumn

When leaves start falling from the trees there is an impending sense that the colder months are just around the corner because they are. It’s time to make use of what time you have left before the cold sets in to take care of your home.

Review Gutters

During this time of the year, it is also a good idea to revisit the maintenance that you had done previously for your gutters. You want to make sure that there are no plugs and that there’s proper drainage during the autumn.

 Clean Your Fireplace

This is a great time for you to call in that chimney sweep to get rid of all those little imperfections that may exist in your chimney and fireplace. Getting everything crisp and ready for those warm crackling winter fires is a must.

Winter

Winter brings its own sets of challenges. This is the season where our energy efficiency, safety as well as comfort are the biggest priority.

Stop the Freezing of Pipes

Something you need to nip in the bud is freezing pipes. You need to make sure that you’re insulating all pipes that are exposed in unheated areas outdoor or indoor.

A neat little trick you can do is to allow your faucet to leak slightly so that water is always running through it and stopping your pipes from freezing.

Use Snow Clearing Equipment

One present that you may get during the season that doesn’t come from Santa is lots of snow. Make sure that your blowers and shovels are in good working order. You don’t want to be stuck without a way to shovel yourself out of mountains of snow.
