Are your kids experiencing life to the fullest right now? Would you be happy if you were a kid their age? Everyone’s a little different, but one of the things that you should always be trying to achieve is allowing your kids to experience as much as they can. There are always going to be things that they are not able to do at any given time, but that doesn’t mean that they should try to do everything that they want to. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the things that you can do as a parent, to ensure that your kids are experiencing life to the absolute fullest. Keep reading down below if you would like to find out more about this.
Give Them The Confidence To Try
The first thing that we’re going to say is that you should be giving them the confidence to try new things. A lot of the time, kids don’t try new things because they don’t know if they should, they don’t know if they are allowed, and most importantly they are scared of the unknown. To be honest, we’re all a little scared of the unknown and there is nothing wrong with this, but you need to be giving them the confidence to try new things as much as you can. Encourage them to try new things when you are with them, and hopefully they will carry this into their everyday life.
The most important lesson that you can teach them is that it’s okay to be afraid of what’s coming next, but you can’t let it stop you from doing things. Everyone deserves to live life to the absolute max, even if that means making some mistakes along the way.
Experience Things With Them
As their parents, there are some things that you should be experiencing with them, and others that they should be experiencing on their own. However, it’s important that you are taking the time to experience as much as you can with them while they still let you! There are a lot of firsts that you’re going to get to experience as their parents such as the first time that they walk, speak, the first time they ride a bike and so on. But, as they get older, you’re going to miss a lot of the firsts, and that’s okay. You do not have to be the first to be able to experience things with your children.
For example, when you take them somewhere new, to a new restaurant for example and it’s an entirely new type of cuisine, this is something that you get to experience with them. You can go sailing with them, you can try new hobbies with them and so on. They need to know that it’s fun to experience new things, and that you are right there beside them for so many adventures. If they see you willing to live life to its fullest, then they are more likely to do so.
Encourage Them To Read
Encouraging kids to read is super important. Reading is great for the brain, and it’s also a really fun hobby if you can get them to enjoy it. When they are younger, you are going to need to read to them, but this is a fantastic way to encourage them to enjoy the words, look at the pictures and come up with the story in their mind. A lot of the time, the things that we like when we are younger will influence the things that we like when we are older, even though that’s not always the case. It might be the case that your kid develops an adoration for reading and continues it their entire life, but they also might not.
For older children who are still on the younger side, you might want to look at somewhere like Hoosier Chapter Books as these are chapter books for book lovers, but still quite simple. They are a fantastic step in the reading world, and it’s a great way to get your kids to love them as they are so interesting.
Support Their Decisions
Another thing that we’re going to recommend is that you support their decisions. While sometimes we don’t understand the decisions that older children make, it’s not your job to understand them. Of course, if it’s dangerous or if you think that it’s going to harm them in some way then you should say something, but generally you should be supporting their choices in life. It’s their life to lead, and if you want them to experience life to the fullest then they have got to be able to make their own way in life.
Even when it’s not easy to do, you have to show up, you have to support them and do whatever you can to help them on their way. Life is for living, and nobody can live their own life if someone is always trying to make their choices for them.
Have The Hard Conversations
The final quick point that we’re going to make is that while having hard conversations is difficult and often uncomfortable, you’ve got to do it. Your kids need to have these conversations with you to give them the information that they need to face the world. It’s in their best interests to do it, and maybe they can avoid making the same mistakes that you did!
We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you should be doing to make sure that your kids are experiencing life to the fullest. There are so many parents out there who don’t take the time to think about their kids’ futures other than what their career is going to be, but this isn’t what’s important. What’s important is that your child is happy, loved, safe and experiencing as much of life as they can. We wish you the very best of luck, and hope that you manage to achieve this goal with your children.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
