Getting a good night’s sleep is important to everyone’s health. The average person should get anywhere from seven to eight hours of sleep per night, but sometimes, sleep does not come easy for a lot of people. A lot of times, your environment can be the cause of your lack of sleep, and in order to ensure a good night’s sleep, here are a few things you can do to your bedroom to create a good sleeping vibe.
Leave Pets In Their Own Beds
Pets are not humans. They do not require the same amount of sleep as people and their sleep schedule is not the same as yours. A lot of pets are nocturnal, and nighttime is the time where they have the most energy. What does that mean for you? You will not get any sleep if your pet wants to play, is moving around a lot, and wants your attention.
It may be hard at first, but just like how you have your children sleep in their own beds, you must have your pets sleep in their own beds as well. Without the movement and the distractions, you will get a great night’s sleep.
Keep Electronics Away From the Bedroom
When it’s time to go to bed, keep all of those blue light devices off and away from your bed. It’s understandable to have your cell phone near the bed in the event of emergencies or for setting an alarm, but tablets, TVs, and laptops must go. Blue light devices, when used, stimulate your brain and they will keep you awake.
Set sleep timers or downtime on your phone or smart watch in order to prevent any kinds of alerts from coming through. If you need to keep your devices on for safety reasons, then so be it, but keep everything else at bay.
Make Your Bed Comfortable
There are so many options out there for a comfortable bed. There are sleep number beds, mattress covers, special pillows, and weighted blankets that all make for the perfect sleeping environment depending on your needs. Research what you feel you need to have a great night’s sleep and purchase those products. If you need help to find out what will work best for your sleep needs, you can speak to your doctor or contact a medical sleep professional.
Know Your Lighting Needs
Some people need the room to be completely dark. If that is you, research the best blackout curtains you can find in order to make the room as dark as possible. You may also want to turn your bed away from windows so that light is never shining in your face.
If you are the kind of person who is not bothered by light, you may want to find soft lighting options at night that may set a mood that makes you very sleepy. This can be achieved through night lights, string lights, or even a soft neon glow. Find what works best for you so that you can achieve a great night’s sleep.
