Being a mom is tough. Raising a child is perhaps the hardest thing that you’ll ever do, whether you choose to go back to work or not, you are bound to be busy, stressed out and tired. It can often feel like you never get a second to yourself.
But then sometimes we want more. Many moms choose to go back to school after having kids. Sometimes to advance their careers or perhaps to take on a new role or start up on their own. Sometimes, they just have a desire to learn. Then, they find themselves in the seemingly impossible position of perhaps working, while studying and looking after their kids. How on earth do you do this without losing your mind?
Choose the right Course
When we were at school most of us had a subject, we hated. We dreaded those lessons, and we didn’t give that subject as much of our focus. We gave it up as soon as we could. The beauty of further education is that you don’t need to do that anymore. You chose what you want to study. So, make sure it’s something that you want to do. If you enjoy lean manufacturing education, or art, or business management, you are more likely to make time for it and give it the focus it deserves.
Enjoying what you are doing will also make it seem like less of a chore. If you enjoy your learning, you’ll see this as your me time. It’ll be a little corner of your day where you do something for yourself away from your family. Far from losing your mind, it can actually give you a bit of it back for yourself.
Look After Yourself
As a parent, whatever you are doing, your kid’s health and well-being always come first. But, when you’ve got so much going on it’s important that you take the time out to look after yourself. Get a good night’s sleep, eat well, drink lots of water, exercise and take a break when you feel under the weather. This will make you a more patient mom and a better student. Get as many early nights and as much rest as you can. It’ll make all of the difference.
Take a Break
Make sure that there’s one day every week (longer if you can) where you don’t work or study. Use this day to unwind, have fun with your kids and even get a little time on your own if possible. You need this time to relax your mind and regain your focus.
Get Help
Moms are often guilty of trying to do everything themselves. Don’t. You’ll burn out and be good to no one. Ask for help. Get your partner to do more at home, ask your parents to babysit and even hire a childminder. Needing help is ok.
Get Organized
When you’ve got so much going on it’s essential that you get organized. Keep a diary with everything in, write to-do lists every day, get lunches and uniforms ready before bed. Make as many little changes as you can that save time in your day. It’ll all add up over the year.
