Do you ever feel the need to just escape from the world for awhile?
For the vast majority of people living in the busy, fast-paced modern world, the answer to this question is likely to be a resounding yes. Sometimes, you just need to take a breather, to regroup, and to spend some time doing very little of import at all.
Most of us have to wait for full vacations to experience the downtime we need, but given that vacations only occur a few times a year, this is less than ideal. If you need a pick-me-up and your next vacation is a long way away, then you might want to think about scheduling a refreshing weekend retreat in your own home. Here’s how to do it…
Inform your friends and family
A weekend retreat at home is all about withdrawing from the world and focusing on yourself and your needs for awhile. This means that you’re going to need to inform your friends and family beforehand that you’re intending to be unavailable for the duration of the weekend.
If you have children, this can obviously be tricky, so why not involve them in your weekend retreat too? You can have wonderful, relaxing family time without having to worry about socializing— something the whole family can enjoy every once in awhile.
Get easy access to multiple entertainment options
A surefire way to harm your weekend retreat is to run out of things to do. It’s vital that you have a wide range of entertainment options, so you can choose something to engage with no matter what mood you’re in. A range of books, an upgrade to the wide range of TV packages available from https://www.optimum.com/, and even old-fashioned board games are all excellent options to have on hand.
Deep clean the house the week before
If you’re going to spend the weekend relaxing as you need to, then you’re going to want to ensure that the house is as clean as possible. Spend a few extra hours in the week leading up to your weekend deep cleaning. This allows for a fresh canvas and guarantees you won’t have to spend too much of the weekend tidying up or cleaning— a definite win/win.
Meal prep
You can meal prep in the conventional way as described on https://www.greatist.com/, or just ensure you have a few takeout menus on hand— whatever works for you. Knowing that your eating options are taken care of will help you to kick back and enjoy the weekend without having to worry about what you’re going to eat, or make a quick run to the grocery store, so spending a little time brainstorming your options in this area is well worth doing.
When the weekend arrives… cloister yourself from the real world, make use of the items and entertainment you have pre-prepared, and give yourself a chance to rest and relax. Feel your stress slip away as you glide through the weekend focusing only on the here and now, and return to normality feeling refreshed and revitalized on Monday. Enjoy!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I would agree to clean the house before the weekend retreat. It is not fun to come home to a messy house.

Great ideas. Some times we need that chance to get away; home is the best. I would suggest ‘unplugging’ for a weekend some time as well. Read, rest and contemplate your life, your future, your hopes and dreams.
