As the world forges forward to becoming more and more sustainable, we should all be thinking about ways we can help. By doing our part now, we can help contribute towards a more energy-efficient future which is far more hopeful than it appears to be now. With a few simple changes here and there, we can all make out home more eco-friendly and reduce our carbon footprint.
Solar Panels
Anyone who owns their own home can invest in solar panels. They may be costly at first, but when your electricity bill is reduced, and at times you sell electricity back to the grid, you will be glad you made the investment. As the world’s reliance on fossil fuels falls, it will become more and more vital that we find our own ways of producing electricity. Solar panels are a pretty good way to do this.
Energy Efficient Lighting
Fruit if your home is on the dark side, you should try and maximize the light coming in from the windows. Natural light is free and can actually enhance your mood too. So think about having lighter curtains or installing skylights. However, you will need lighting when the sun goes down, so think energy-efficient and LED light bulbs.
Reduce The Heat Washing Clothes
If possible, wash your clothes on a cold wash. If this does not work for you, just reduce the temperature instead from 40°C to 30°C. Over time this will save you some money as well as reducing your carbon footprint. Also, avoid washing half loads as this is just a waste.
Save Water
You can install a toilet that allows you to have an eco-flush, where it uses less than half the amount of water. You could also have water tanks installed where you can collect rainwater. Also, when you have a shower, limit the time to three minutes. Water is going to become more and more scarce, so if you can employ some water-saving techniques now, that is a huge bonus.
Double Glazing
If you don’t already have double glazing, perhaps you should think about having it installed. If your home gets particularly cold in the winter, why not think about having triple glazing instead. The more heat your home can store without losing any, the less you will need to use your heating system.
Service your Boiler and AC unit
It makes sense to have regular services of both your heating and cooling systems. This will ensure that they are running to their optimum when you are using them. Perhaps have the boiler serviced toward the end of summer and the AC unit toward the end of winter. This means that you will get a cheaper rate as these items are not being used yet, and they will be working effectively when you need them.
Use Eco-Products
There are plenty of eco-products out there from kettles to cleaning products. The best thing to do is investigate what you need and see if there is a more environmentally friendly way of doing it.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
