Many people love buying clothes; they want to be fashionable, trendy and wear expressive garments that represent them. However, this can be an expensive habit. If your clothing budget is out of control, and you feel you need help in this matter; here are some excellent tips to learn how to save money while shopping for new clothes and make the most of your closet.
Before getting started we will like to clarify we won’t take into account garments like shapewear or underwear, as those clothes don’t apply to most of the tips we are going to share with you.
Consider generic and shop out of season
When you are looking for basic garments that most of the time you will wear under other clothes (like tops or plain t-shirts) buy generic clothes. You don’t need to spend lots of money on a brand name. The quality is not that different between one and another (referring to this type of garments, and most of the time) and you won’t be showing it off, so there is really no need to pay a fortune for this kind of clothes. The same applies for layering during the winter. Another way to save money on buying clothes is to look for selling apps that sell clothes online. You can get a lot of variety in your budget on these apps.
You also should start buying your clothes out of season. Of course we know it is hard to avoid the excitement of buying pre-season, especially when it is winter and the shop window displays a beautiful sundress that makes you dream of spring and it is almost as if you could feel the nice weather by purchasing it. The problem is, that purchasing in anticipation means paying maximum retail price. At this point, instead of buying that dress, you should be purchasing what is left of winter clothes, for they will be on sale and you can get excellent deals. Yes, it sounds weird you buy winter clothes when winter is about to be over, but this will save you a lot of money!
Get rid of the clothes you don’t wear anymore. Sell them!
Another good tip to earn some money to purchase new clothes is to sell what you don´t wear any more. Inspect your closet once a year and look for those garments you haven’t worn throughout the whole year. That means you don’t need it or like it enough, so (if it is in a good state) you can sell it.
You can take these clothes to consignment shops; sell them on the internet, or to a friend. There are also apps to sell used clothes.
Take care of your clothes and wash them less often
Try to wash your clothes in cool water, on a gentle cycle. If you take a look to the specifications on the tags you will make them last longer. Hand wash your delicates.
Moreover, try not to wash your clothes that often. We are not saying you should wear smelly and dirty clothes, we are just recommending to think twice before tossing your clothes to the laundry machine. Most of the time the clothes go right to the laundry basket when they are clean enough to wear. Start paying attention to this behavior; jeans for example, can be worn more than once before washing them. Is the same thing with sweaters or hoodies, night dresses or jackets. If you reduce the number of washes of your clothes, they will last longer. In addition, you will do less laundry and save money by doing that too.
Borrow a friend for special occasions, or rent it
If you need to get dressed for a special occasion, consider renting designer dresses or borrowing a dress from a friend or family member. These types of events are usually once in a long period of time, and unless your agenda is filled with black tie parties, we recommend to avoid spending tons of money on a garment you will probably wear just once. Instead, you can save money by renting or asking to borrow the right type of clothing from a friend.
Take a look at the men’s and kid’s sections
In case you didn’t know, women’s clothes are often more expensive than men’s and kid’s clothes. Therefore, you ladies out there, don’t be shy to check on these sections if you are looking for some universal clothing (like t-shirts or a tracksuit), you may save some good money.
