How To Show Your Home Some Much-Need Love

Mar 11, 2022 | Rita

You can always tell when a home’s been loved. Everything is set out beautifully and you get a great vibe when you walk inside.

The same is not true when a home is unloved. Things aren’t in the right place, and everything feels out of shape. It’s not good.

In this post, we take a look at some of the ways that you can show your home some love. It’s not just about maintaining property values but also changing how you feel when you’re in it.

Eat Meals At Home

One simple thing that you can do is eat meals at home. When you do, you’ll find that you instantly feel better about where you live and it’ll start to feel like it is the place you’re supposed to be. Try to avoid eating all your food in the car or in the car park outside your favorite fast food restaurant.

Add More Privacy

For a home to feel like your place (and only yours), you need privacy. You don’t want strangers looking in as they pass by.

To do this, consider adding some sheer curtains, particularly on your ground floor. These are a great option because they allow natural daylight to enter while obscuring views of anyone inside.

Another option is to get one-way glass films put on your windows. You can look out, but other people can’t look in.

Zone Your Space

Zoning your space is another critical aspect of making your home feel loved. You don’t want files from your office desk spilling over into your living room where you relax. Look for ways to create separation between the two, even if it’s just putting up a bookshelf.

Add More Scents

You can also show your home some love by adding fragrances. Choose something natural and subtle so that you don’t overwhelm people every time they come over. Great scents include patchouli, lavender and orange blossom.

Indulge Yourself A Little

Adding soap bombs to your bath can be a great way to indulge yourself. So too can things like beautiful flowers in vases or delicious homemade strawberry desserts in the refrigerator. Find little ways that you can treat yourself while at home to make it feel more welcoming.

Clean Out Your Pantry

If your pantry is a mess, it can be hard to find ingredients and cook meals. What’s more, it also increases the chances of pest infestation. Food debris attracts bugs, leading to the need to hire a termite exterminator.

Cleaning it out and making sure that there are no crumbs on the floor reduces this risk and helps you to be more organized at the same time. It’s a win-win.

Invite Some Guests Over

Inviting people over to your home is a great way to feel more settled, particularly if you’ve known these individuals for a long time. It means that you’re still around people you love and care about. It makes moving to a new place less scary.

Rearrange The Furniture

You don’t have to keep all your furniture in the same place if you don’t want to. In fact, rearranging it could be a great idea. Rearranging helps your home to look fresh and new, changing your perspective on it.

Add More Light

You can also show your home a little love by adding more light to your interiors. If natural light is hard to come by in north-facing rooms, choose recessed light fittings, spot lights and lamps. Try to create a situation where you have light emanating from as many sources as possible.

Clean Up A Little

When you live in a clean environment, it suddenly feels so much better. It’s like a weight has been lifted off your mind.

You don’t have to do everything in one go. Instead, just clean the odd item here and there and see what difference it makes. Over time, you’ll notice that your interiors become less messy, negating the need to spend entire weekends trying to sort your home out.

Prepare Your Bed

Leaving your bed unmade is a bad idea. It sets you up poorly for the day. Therefore, every morning you should make your bed. You’ll find that when you do this, your house automatically feels more loved.

If you really want things to feel different, swap out the sheets for fresh ones. Also, plump the bedding and clear out any mess underneath.

Add Some Art To Your Walls

Lastly, you can make a house feel like a home by adding some art to the walls. It doesn’t have to be anything big: just a little memento will suffice.
