I Can’t Fly a Drone

Jan 01, 2019 | Rita

I’m not being modest either. I can’t fly one of those things to save my life. Let me take you back a little bit. A year or two ago I thought I would buy the kids a drone. I mean it was something I kept seeing and I thought they would have great time with it.

So I get it ordered and we wait for it to come in with bated breath. The day it arrived it was much smaller than I thought it would be. Apparently I’m too cheap to spring for one of the larger ones. It ‘s a good thing too!

I had been preparing for a vacation and following some times like on this website and figured a drone would be great for them while on vacation. However I didn’t want to have to pack one of those larger ones and thus we ended up with one the size of phone.

Anyway we get it from aliexpress drones and before I let the kids play it I want to make sure it works. Plus if I take the time to read the book and get familiar with it I can show them how to use it. It will also mean I could answer the million questions they were going to have about it.

So, I took a day to reach and understand the book. They we had to wait a few more day before we could go outside and attempt to use. I turned it on in the house and discovered right away that it wasn’t meant to be inside. It hit the wall….twice. That should have been my first clue.

Yet, I thought I was a smart gal who knew what she was doing. I didn’t need any help. I had to download an app on my phone, which I did, and then I was good to go. We went out onto the back porch because I want to start somewhere I could see everything.

I turned it on, took a few minutes to get it steady and then headed into the yard. Where the drone proceeded to shoot off like a dart into the woods. No one saw where it went and the camera caught a tree then another tree and then nothing because it hit a tree. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy.

My response to all of them was “What? Go find it cause I’m not going out there.” Not one of my finer moments. When they brought it back it wasn’t the drone it was when it left. I spent several hours trying to find out how to have a drone serviced like they discuss here. It wasn’t an easy process and once we got it fixed I was told I had to stay away from it in no uncertain terms. Of course the kids all fly it was no problems what so ever. They just like to show off that they can do it and I can’t. I’m not very happy about all of that if you can tell.
