Before I tell you about the place I want to eat at I need to say that I would love to win the lottery just so I could travel around and eat at different restaurants. I don’t know about all of y’all but I love me some barbecue. Not it doesn’t always love me but there is one place that I really want to try. There are more than 500 locations in 44 states but I can say I have never been. If you are wondering what place I am talking about it’s Dickey’s.
It was first founded in 1941 and is now one of the largest barbecue franchises in the county. It is based out of Dallas, Texas and is a family-owned business. Roland Dickey Jr. has continue the tradition and his wife is the CEO. How cool is that? I think it is pretty cool. I love the fact they can work together doing something they love.
If you are lucky enough to get to eat at a Dickeys location you will find yourself enjoying an array of meats. They have pulled pork (my favorite), beef brisket, pork ribs, chicken, and the list could just go on. The meat is cooked over burning pits that are hickory smoked. If, like me, you are from the south you have seen meats cooking like this. It is something we see pretty often especially in the summer.
Dickey’s menu does have a large selection of side. That is something I love and so want to try. They list everything from green beans with bacon to corn on the cob to okra. There are even salads listed. We have a place in town that offers homemade chips. They are so hard you can’t eat them and it makes the whole meal just awful.
Everywhere we travel I try to try the barbecue. You can tell a lot about a place just by the barbecue. For example here in my town we have two barbecue places. The one that is the best, in my opinion, is only open for lunch during the week. Not to mention they are so busy that there is usually a line out the door.
After doing a little research I found that there are several locations in South Carolina. So we we take our trip next year I will certainly have to add visiting Dickeys as one of the things we will do. That way I can see for myself just how well Roland Dickey can make barbecue. It is a little bit of a drive from my brother’s but I think heading up would make a great day trip. We could find something for the kids to do and I could get the barbecue that I want to eat so badly. Everyone wins! At least my stomach does. There is also one in Myrtle Beach that I saw listed. It may end up being the one we go to since this year may be a beach year for our vacation.
