If that statement is the statement of the year! No matter how hard I try, no matter what it is that I seem to do I can’t manage to keep a single fitness goal. I did manage it one or twice last year but for some reason this year is a bust so far. I share this post over at A Lucky Grace to begin with and decided to share it here with all of y’all now. Take a look at all the reasons I suck at fitness goals!
It seems like every single time I attempt to set a goal and meet it fitness wise something seems to go wrong. I haven’t a clue what it is either. You would think I would be great at this. However I do admit that a lot of my goals this year seem to be falling apart at the seams. It is so easy to write down a goal and then say I am going to do XYZ to get it done. It sounds great and I feel so pumped when I make the goal. It is the follow through that I am having a hard time with.
In fact, the last few weeks I have been doing less fitness and more eating. I need to work out the reason why. The other night I was eating some chips and thought “What in the world am I doing?” I wasn’t hungry, yet I was eating.
I think a lot of it is emotional. I know that I am an emotional eater and that my depression has been in full force. That, I think, is what has led me to abandon my fitness goals completely this year. Although I do know that I have to accept responsibility for not seeing those goals through. It is far to easy to lay the blame at a disorder rather than accept that I am lazy. I know I am lazy when it comes to fitness.
My laziness is something that I have been working on. I thought or at the least felt as though I was making headway. Now I feel as though I am starting from the beginning again. Maybe I shouldn’t make a goal and hope to follow through. I don’t know and I am open to any suggestions that y’all have. For someone who isn’t very active to attempt to be active isn’t always easy. I can do well for days even a month or two but always end up backsliding.
I had hoped to be walking five miles a day by now. I’m not even walking a mile most days. I need to find my motivation. Every night before I go to bed I tell myself that I am going to get back to it the next morning. The next morning I have fifty excuses for why I haven’t walked yet. My biggest goal for this month is be able to tell y’all I have walked every day for a single week. That is all i am hoping for at this moment.

I do MixxedFit & it’s like dancing in a club. I like the music and the dancing moves every part of your body.

Up till a month ago I was pretty active. Granted I still chase a room full of toddlers every day at work. But I had been exercising like 3 days a week on top of that and walking over 11,000 to 14,000 steps but then I just went like lazy too!! I did lose 65 pounds this past year. I need to restart my fitness goals too. I say today is the day! Best to both of us.

I have to be honest, I have not kept up with my fitness plan either. But I am doing 15 minutes of walking and 25 wall push ups. I know its not much from the list I originally started out with and also I think its do to my emotions. But I am praying with the will and help from Jesus that each day I can do better. And I don’t know all that is emotionally bothering you, but I send my prayers.

I make sure to exercise right away when I wake up in the morning, otherwise, I will not do it. Setting up my day to be a good day really helps me when I know that I have put a good foot forward and went and did my fast walk. It is all about making that commitment to your health with diet and exercise.

I hear you on this one! I had kept up my new year’s resolution of working out regularly through March and then I dropped the ball. I need to get back into it! I do find it more helpful to follow along with a fitness calendar where the workouts are already scheduled for me. Taking out the extra step of having to plan my workout makes me more likely to actually do it!

Success is never linear, definitely set realistic goals keep it up 🙂

I sign up to run a marathon each year because it keeps me accountable and motivated to run.

I try every month to eat healthy! I start off good but I always end up slacking!
Donna Porter says
Over the past few months I have been eating healthier and walking daily. What has helped me stay on track better this time is my hubby is on board with me. We are cooking meals together as well as going on long daily walks.

I remind myself that if I don’t exercise for a week I’ll be sore once I start up again. My workout journal also helps keep me motivated.

exercise with a friend

I’ve been trying to get a fitness routine going since January, but it’s been somewhat sporadic. I’ve found exercising with my daughter helps. We keep each other motivated!
Jana Leah says
I find that taking walks with someone else helps. You’re accountable to someone else & it’s less boring. It also helps if you don’t walk in the same location each time.
Nancy says
I could use a fitness buddy to keep me motivated.
Hesper Fry says
I also struggle with my fitness goals. I also think having a fitness friend to motivate me would help!

I try to naturally incorporate excerise into my daily routine through biking to work, walking to do errands etc.. because I can relate.

To Bad So Sad has probably been my favorite so far.

I need to get into fitness planning again! I need to exercise more and stay more hydrated as well.

I’m never been much into fitness, but after reading the same struggles of others, I feel like I’m not alone.

I admire your honesty. I have found that setting small goals helps vs big ones that usually discourage me if I don’t follow through. Life happens and sometimes you encounter setbacks. I had a good workout routine going until experiencing really bad pain due to ovarian cysts in the past couple of months. I need to get myself back into routine soon because I had a lot more energy when I walked 2+ miles or went to the gym. I love to make mixed berry and banana smoothies for a healthy sweet pick-me-up on occasion. If anything try to fit in fitness in your home while watching your favorite shows if you are capable of doing so or walk around the house in between commercials if you are watching something live. I always feel encouraged when I am feeling well and have someone to go with me to the gym. My boyfriend and one of our friends has a membership to Planet Fitness. Sometimes it is nice to have a buddy so that you can empower one another or lift each other’s spirits when one feels discouraged. Best of luck!

I’m right there with you…but I’m trying to get better. I’m parking my car at the very back of the parking lot and trying to keep busy during commercials.
Anne Scott says
Well I got a young energetic dog and realized it I didn’t want everything in my house chewed up and a very unhappy dog we would both have to get active! So daily hikes, ball throwing, etc keeps us both happy and fit!
Amanda W says
I’m with you! It’s really hard for me to set realistic goals, especially when it comes to physical activity. Baby steps, there’s always tomorrow – that’s what i’m always reminding myself haha
Beth Hern says
I suck at fitness goals also. I don’t know how to get on a schedule and stick to it.

I find that walking videso can substitute when I can’t get out to walk
Marie says
My fitness goals are small right now and I still feel bad when I struggle with that.
Michelle L. says
I’m right there with you! I work on getting active by trying to make at least three laps around the park across the street…three laps equals a mile. I’m going to add music to my ipod and try to make at least nine laps a day by the end of this month,
Rust says
I kinda suck at them also. Maybe I am not self-disciplined enough but when it comes to strict schedules I am not a big fan.
Julie Waldron says
This is so relatable! We moved to the family farm in April. I imagined we’d go for a walk everyday/evening, we’ve been on maybe 10 walks since we moved here.
Jenny Ham says
I am horrible at fitness. I try and make a plan then I stick to it for a few weeks then I am done. Maybe starting too fast pushing too hard in the beginning.
Celeste Herrin says
Since my lower back issues I really can’t and don’t do very much. Between that and fibromyalgia it really limits me. It seems the past 6 months there is a very fine line of overdoing it and that might only be walking for 5 minutes. It really sucks to be so limited. The treadmill used to be my favorite exercise machine.
Sharon Rooney says
I know the feeling. If I can’t get to the gym I try to do a little at home mainly ab exercises and planks.
Mya Murphy says
I’m disabled but I work out in my bed as much as I can.. Handbells, stretches..
Mary Beth Elderton says
Me, too…sigh…me, too. I have managed to “clean” our diet to eliminate the worst foods/additives, but when it comes to an exercise routine…I just can’t seem to get it together.
