I started blogging way back when it seems and have seen all kinds of changes through the years. This year I have noticed a number of trends that made me pay closer attention to the those growth trends. One thing that I have noticed is the sheer number of influencers on social media.
If you’re wondering being an influencer is not always the same as being a blogger. Sometimes like me the word may be interchangeable but for many influencers they only post to social media. They don’t blog and that is okay.
Instagram is the Top Platform
I am still small potatoes when it comes to Instagram. I didn’t start mine until late and I will be honest back when I first started Twitter was the big platform. So I’m working on Instagram but if you follow any of the big influencers on there you know they have massive followers. Some have more than a million.
Fake Followers
The down side to Instagram being at the top is you can now buy fake followers. I can’t tell you the number of emails I receive daily offering to sell me followers. I never understand that. Why would I spend my hard earned money for fake followers when I can be authentic and gain real followers. Do I get as many as I would if I bought them? No, but each of followers is a real person and not some bot. I connect with my followers.
Blogging is Not Dead
I’ve heard some people make that very statement. However, blogging is far from dead. In fact, 2020 has brought me more work than the same time last year. Possibly the last two years at the same time. I typically get asked to write a few posts a week. Although I’m a bit more picky now than when I first began. Writing blog posts have changed over the years as well. Once upon a time three hundred words would cut it. Now, I attempt to write at least five hundred and use programs like ingramer review. My most popular posts are more than that most of the time.
Nano or Micro Influencers Will Find More Work
On Instagram I’m considered a Nano Influencer which means I have 9,000 or less followers. There was a time when Nano or Micro (10k-99k followers) struggled to find sponsored work. We had to take what we could. Now, due to costs and the possibility of buying fake followers brand are working with those smaller influencers. Smaller will mean a much more intimate story or collaboration. With a smaller amount of followers my net worth is much smaller than say Josh Richards net worth.
Long Term Relationships
Many brands are also now looking for long term relationships when it comes to influencer marketing. They don’t want a one and done. They want to spend the money working with influencers who will use their products and show them in every day life. I work with a couple of brands in these sort of relationships. I use the products I get in my everyday life and share them with my followers through out the month and year. These in, my opinion, are the best way to utilize influencers. We can create much more authentic posts and interactions.
