Is Your Blog a Slog? Spice It Up with These Tips!

Jan 05, 2017 | Rita

Tens of thousands of new blogs are started every day, so you need to make sure yours is exciting to read. Here are a few tips that will help you kick things up a notch!

Add some humor

This seems way too obvious, right? What blogs don’t try to incorporate humor to some degree? Well, you’d be surprised. There are a disturbing amount of blogs out there that are simply way too dry. A lot of the time, this stems from the blogs in question being used for professional purposes. A lot of businesses only have blogs on their websites because they’ve heard that they attract visitors. They don’t tend to take a humorous route; they simply post a lot of information and leave it at that.

But a good sense of humor endears you to someone pretty quickly, right? So why not try to use it in your blog? Of course, writing to be funny is easier said than done. Seek out some tips and give it a go on your blog.

Add some images

To be honest, there are a lot of blogs out there that use way too many images, distracting from the text. Many are keen to avoid an overuse of images, but this can sometimes translate into not using enough. Of course, it’s not just about the use of images in itself. It’s also about ensuring you’re actually using quality images!

The images you use should be complementing the text in some significant way. They should be there to help accentuate the message or the particular emotions you’re trying to convey. Finding the right images can be pretty difficult. It might be best for you to look into styled stock photography. If all else fails… use an cat photo.

Add some guest posts

Look, I’m not saying that people are sick of reading your posts. But seeing the work of someone else now and then can certainly make things more exciting! It’s like when people hear a good guest verse in a rap song. It adds some spice; it allows one rapper to meld their creative method with the format and style of the main artist’s choosing. Even the most influential among us can be made more interesting by inviting an established guest.

A similar effect can be achieved by simply hiring another writer. But if you can actually get an established writer that post on your blog, then this could be even better. It will drive traffic to your website in the form of fans of that writer. It lends some credibility to your website. Getting someone to write for your blog can sometimes be as simple as offering them enough money, but this isn’t always the case.

Add some controversy

Don’t shy away from sharing a point of view that’s a little different from others in your industry. But remember that there’s a difference between controversial and confrontational! Don’t do it for the sake of it, or with the sole aim of ruffling some feathers for a few views. Your posts should always reflect how you feel. But if how you feel doesn’t gel completely with others in your industry, then don’t shy away. This is why so much blog content is so similar. Stand out by being upfront and honest.

I am looking for a way to get readers to read my blog, so thanks for this great post. I just started using pictures from Pixabay, but I’ve wondered how many to use. That’s a good idea to find someone to be write a guest post. Thanks for your tips.

      Brenda,

You are so welcome. I will tell you that the most important thing I have ever learned while blogging is to remember that it is your blog and you get to decide how much is too much or too little. Good luck with everything.

I also have my blog thanks for having this tips. I am thinking of adding controversy on my blog now. I have read that many have earn money through viral posting but I am a bit skeptical.

I am accepting guest posts and it really helps a lot in gaining views and comments

Guest posts do help. Like you I have been nervous about controversy and never post things that may cause it. However this year I am being a little truer to myself and touching on subjects I wouldn’t have in the past.
