If you have been following then you may have heard me mention we have in the middle of a remodel. One that started out as a bathroom update and ended up being something more. My bathroom needed to be updated and there was a crack in one corner of the wall. We assume it was a foundation issue. It wasn’t. It was more of a an entire wall needed to be taken out and then rebuilt. That led to so many new problems.
There for a while it seemed like every time a problem was resolved, a new one would arise. I spent a month with no sink and my shower torn down to the basics. I mean I had to shower in one of the other bathrooms or stand in one corner of mine and hop no one saw. We aren’t even gonna talk about the window being taken out or the wall. It was certainly a trial in my patience.
Bathroom
The bathroom ended up looking great, although it does still need a cabinet for storage. The pictures above are the before and you can tell it is really outdated. That medicine cabinet is something from the seventies. The toilet you used to have to jingle the handle and stand on your head to get it to flush. At least that is how if felt at times.
As you can see in the pictures it almost looks like a new bathroom altogether. It does still need a good tile cleaning. I have tried everything I could think of, short of paying someone. Although I do admit that it took me a good week before it dawned on me that they weren’t white white but more of a beige white. I have plenty of room and the pale gray gave the bathroom a modern look and feel.
The rest of the house looks good, on the outside as well. The inside is still a work in progress. The outside though looks like a whole new house. We ended up having to paint because so many sections had to be repaired. So we selected a new color, got a quote and then decided for that sort of money we could do it ourselves.
Windows & Shutters
I did the windows and shutters. It took me a week with two coats of paint. It took a week because it was dang near a hundred degrees outside each day. However, as you can see they turned out very nicely. I love the white.
Outside
The house was a yellow color that reminded me of puke. I had always planned to change the color but things got in the way and it didn’t seem important. However, a new roof and plenty of new sections meant a new paint job.
We decided that a gray would be just the ticket. It would give the outside a timeless look and with the white trim it would bring things together nicely. We were right as well. Things could not have looked better. In fact, we have had several neighbor stop to check that we were still living here. I’m not sure what that says about us. I thought we took care of things but maybe not as well as I thought.
The porch is the next big project. It originally had wire all around it (the picture above) and needed so much work. Thankfully an amazing company is going to help us with that. I will have an article to share with you as well so you can see the before and afters.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEW LOOK? LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW.

What a cute home! Love the new paint color and shutters. But omg…remodeling! We redid the kitchen in our small 1950’s house a few years ago. We even planned that it might need a lot of work.. But every single thing opened more problems…more plumbing, more electrical, more structural…more, more more. I still want to redo the bathroom.

Thank you! That is what happened with us. It seemed every time we solved one problem, we found three more.

Try having a home built in 1900! And npe it did not have any of the original stuff when we moved here 30 years ago. We are re roofing or trying to. Our house is currently a denim blue ( think very worn denim) but it needs painting. I am going with about the same color you did next year I like the gray blue color. Yours looks great.
We do all our own work too at this point I am tempted to just move.

I love old houses! The blue and gray will look amazing I am sure. Honestly, halfway through I wanted to just bulldoze the whole thing and start over.

I love what you did with the bathroom and I can’t blame you for wanting to change that outside paint, I would of been on that to LOL.
I’m glad your happy with the outcome, I think it looks wonderful!
