The beauty & wellness industry is a multinational, multibillion dollar industry with numerous subsectors. In fact, multiple professionals from nearly every other industry are also directly or indirectly associated with the massive beauty and wellness business. However, we are going to focus on a few job roles that are not just directly connected to beauty and wellness, but they are each a big part of what the industry stands for.
Hairdressing
Hairdressing is one of the oldest professions in beauty and makeup, although it did not gain as much popularity in the old days. Back then, hairdressing was a premium service only reserved for women belonging to noble, regal, or rich merchant families. Nowadays, the profession has exploded in its scope and demand for obvious reasons. Irrespective of gender or high social status, most people have been to a hairdresser at least once in their lifetime. So, opening up your own salon can be a lucrative venture.
Lash Technician
In contrast to hairdressing, the job of a lash technician is a recent introduction to the beauty industry. However, that is precisely what makes the profession quite profitable. As to what the job entails, that’s quite varied and depends on what the client needs or wants. For the most part, a lash technician will:
- Modify (straighten, perm, etc.) a client’s existing eyelashes to make them look better or different.
- Attach and/or detach lash extensions for the desired look safely.
While there is a growing demand for qualified and certified lash technicians, not enough people have the knowledge and training necessary to do the job. You can either start or augment your CV as a beautician by completing the online Lash Extension Course at the Lash and Brow Studio.
Makeup Artist
The term makeup artist is a pretty broad term in respect to the standards of today. Nevertheless, the term generally refers to beauticians who specialise in applying makeup for special occasions such as marriage ceremonies, parties, and events. Makeup artists are also the professionals behind the stars in movies, plays, operas, and other forms of performance arts.
Stylist
A stylist is often called an image consultant, although there might be slight difference between the two roles. For the most part though, both stylists and image consultants are experts at helping people look the way that they want to. They help their clients find a way to portray the image or outlook that they wish to. Sometimes, they may also be consulted for effective makeovers.
This time around though, their job becomes that of changing the way that their client is perceived in people’s eyes. As you can probably guess, celebrities, politicians, and other public figures frequently visit image consultants and stylists for advice. However, image consultants also work with regular people, so that they can reinvent their own image and find more confidence in themselves.
The beauty of working in this sector is that with training, experience, and dedication, you can come to hold multiple roles at once. Provided that you can find the right contacts and impress them, you may even find yourself working with the rich and famous at some point.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
