Unexpected times are just that. They are unexpected. You never know when the next disaster will happen and affect your family. When things get chaotic and people start to get desperate, it may be impossible for you and your family to get the things that you need. To help ensure you and your family’s safety and security, there are some things that you should always have in your home. You should have a steady supply of these things to ensure your added safety. Here are some of the essentials that everyone should have in their home for the next unexpected event.
Surgical Masks
You never know the reason why you and your family may need to stay at home so you need to prepare for everything. If there is a virus outbreak, like the coronavirus, it will be essential that you and your family have surgical masks from a surgical supplies online store. During unexpected times, it is almost impossible to find surgical masks. Hospitals and emergency responders barely have enough and are forced to try and make their own. Homemade masks do not work nearly as well as a surgical mask. To ensure that you have the highest quality products, you should stock up on surgical masks ahead of time.
Food
During unexpected times, it may be very difficult to get food to feed your family. You should always have food stored in your home that does not go bad. If you need to leave home, you can always get the essentials like milk, eggs, and meat. If things get really bad and you cannot leave your home, you should have enough nonperishable food stored somewhere in your home to keep you and your family from going hungry. It is recommended that you have at least a three day supply of food available for everyone in your family, but some experts recommend that you have at least a two week supply of food. The amount of food you have is a personal decision. You should have your favorite foods available to help you make some of your favorite recipes.
Bandages and Gauze
Scraps, cuts, and other injuries are sure to happen to everyone. If there is an unexpected event and you are unable to leave the home and get medical treatment, you should have bandages and gauze pads readily available in your home. You should always know where these supplies are so that you can find them and use them quickly. Having these things in your home during an unexpected event can keep you safe and can save your life.
Water
One essential that you should keep in your home in case of a disaster is water. The government recommends that you keep at least a three-day supply of water available for everyone in your family. This means that you need one gallon of water per day per person in your family for three days. Therefore, if you have three people in your family you will need nine gallons of water in total. This water can be used to drink and to keep you clean. It is crucial that you have this during unexpected times to help save your life.
Flashlight
If you lose power and are unable to see around the home, you need to make sure you have a few flashlights with batteries. These lights can help you see around your home and signal for help if you need it. Make sure you have extra batteries because you will likely be using the flashlights more than you thought.
Sterile Gloves
Gloves are an essential thing to keep in your home to help you get through unexpected times. These gloves can help prevent anything from getting onto your skin and causing injury or illness. Sterile gloves may be hard to find during an unexpected event so they should be purchased ahead of time.
Battery-Powered Radio
If something dramatic happens to the country and you are unable to leave your home or get help, you will want to have a battery-powered radio. This radio can help you stay in contact with the world and know what is going on. It can give you vital information and help you and your family get through the unexpected times.

Good list of items! This time of year, I am checking my supplies for the upcoming hurricane season. Right now most of my supplies like batteries and bandaids and cleaning wipes and hand wipes are low. I do have a lot of emergency candles that were given out when Hurricane Micheal came through back in October of 2018.
