We already like fruit in our house but I have been wanting to add it in more and more, so when the chance to work with Lil Snappers came through my email I jumped on it. One of the things I like is the kid friendly, creative, fruit recipes on the Lil Snappers Website. After checking out the site I found two that I really wanted to try out. The first is the perfect mid-morning snack, I think.
It is the Apple Smile Sandwich which takes just a few ingredients. It is the one that I truly liked the most:
Ingredients
1 Lil Snapper Kid Size Apple, cored and sliced
1 slice of whole wheat bread
1 to 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
Extras for nose, eyes and hair: Blueberries, raisins, pretzel sticks, coconut, nuts, etc.
Round cookie cutters (approximately 1.5” to 2”, and 3.5”)
Instructions:
Once apple has been cored and sliced, slice wedges once again (to get a thinner wedge). Then, using a 1.5” to 2” round cutter, trim the inner part of each wedge, if desired, to create a more pronounced “smile” shape. Using an approximate 3.5” round cookie cutter, cut bread slice into a round. Spread peanut butter evenly over round of bread. Position thin wedge of apple as “mouth” of the face. Add eyes, nose and hair, using the items you chose!
The other snack I loved was the Orange You a Caterpillar which again just takes a few ingredients: oranges, raisins, and blueberries. This would be a great after school snack because it is light and won’t ruin dinner. I had such big plans to make these and show how wonderful they looked.
Well the day all of the fruit arrived I had not only my family but some in-laws visiting and after I managed to get the these pictures I went outside for a minute. When I came back in the fruit was steadily being eaten by everyone and I do mean everyone. Not did the kids love the Mandarins but the adults could not believe how wonderful they were as well. Just one of the joys of this bi-cultural life: a big family! If you like these two healthy fruit snack ideas, then you should really check out the Lil Snapper Recipes page for even more great ideas. Lil Snappers are kid-sized fruits which means they are just the right size with no cutting or packaging.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I love the size of these fruits. They are perfect for cold lunches. I try to put fruit in their lunch box everyday, so these would be great. I love the Caterpillar!

I love mandarins and apples! Having a size that’s easy to grab for a snack can be the difference between eating a healthy fruit versus grabbing chips or something else that’s considered unhealthy. Lil’ Snackers provides the incentive to grab the healthy fruit, so it’s great not just for kids but for everyone. Thanks for sharing all the kid-friendly fruit art and the locations to find this product! Luckily I live in an area that does sell Lil’ Snackers at a line of grocery stores.

how adorable – I love! but I haven’t noticed these in the stores, although I could just have walked right past them. I’ll need to keep an eye out. I wonder if these are more appealing to little hands and little appetites!
