Kid Friendly Valentine’s Dinner

Feb 10, 2012 | Rita

Keep things simple with flowers

When you have children planning and having a romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day can be a bit of a challenge. Why not include the kids on this day? You can always plan to have dessert with you someone special later after the kids have gone to bed. The biggest trouble is what to cook and decorating. Here are a few ideas:

Having children simply means adjusting your style, not changing it.

If your children are older set the table with your good china and explain to them this is a special occasion. If you aren’t sure you want them using your good china, then get them some plastic china. You can get some great plastic wine glasses that your kids can use to drink their juice from. This will make them feel more grown up and teach your children about table manners at the same time. They will feel special. You can still use candles and roses on the table if you feel like it. All you have to do with the candles is not light them! Make your children feel special and explain to them what the days means to you.

Children can cutout the hearts for this table decorations

Children don’t want to eat fancy foods so save the duck for another night.  Instead opt for a kid friendly dish such as pizza. But don’t let the fact that it is pizza stop you from adding a little Valentine flair to it. Shape the dough into a large heart or do smaller individuals hearts. Let the kids help by allowing them to add the ingredients to the top of the pizza.

Pizza is simple and easy for kids to help with.

Most importantly DON’T make your children feel as though they are encroaching on your adult time. Instead let them see you dance, laugh, and love (get your minds out of the gutter and save that for later) with your someone special. It is through these acts that we teach our children about love and relationships. Remember everything they see, hear, and do now will affect the adults that they will become.

Great ideas. I love the heart shaped pizza and the fruit in the heart bowl. Great way to make your kids part of the special meal.
