When you have a large household like ours you have to be able to do the laundry, make clothing last as long as they can, and not break the bank. That is not an easy task, trust me. Our small town only has a couple of stores but we have a Family Dollar and I buy all of my laundry supplies there. Why? Because I can get name brand products, like those from P&G, for less and not compromise anything.
Making clothes last as long as they can is important for me. That is why the younger kids typically get hand me downs. I have a set of clothing for each of the kids that are their “play clothes.” These are the clothes that they can wear out and play in the yard in. They can get dirty and when they get a hole, we put a patch on it. Having play clothes allows us to keep the good clothing lasting longer. If pants get a hole in the knee, I cut of the bottom and they become shorts. Depending on the condition of the salvaged part they either keep on going as good clothing or are designed for the play clothes pile.
I make a point of buying quality clothing and using quality laundry cleaners such as Gain Flings. These are easy to use and with the three-in-one single-use that includes 50% more scent, an oxi boost and the freshness of Febreze, for long-lasting freshness and cleaning power I can get the laundry done quicker. In fact the kids can start a load if needed since there is no measuring.
Of course those are just a couple of ways to make our clothing last as long as it can. With mine I wear and use a piece of clothing until I can’t use it anymore! How about you, how do you make your clothing last as long as it can? Check out Family Dollar and see how you can save on your laundry care. I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

We too wear clothes until we can’t anymore. The kids have clothes that they play in or hang around the house in and then they have their good clothes. Family Dollar is a great place to shop and save!

We have the kids change out of good or school clothes when they come home and generally wear sweats or older clothes at home. Plus, we sort in 6 different piles so as not to have bleaching or color run problems. turning shirts inside out that have details or writing can save some of that from wearing off. And of course ALL pockets better be emptied before going to laundry. Chapstick or lipstuff, pens, etc can be a HUGE mess and ruin a whole batch of laundry!
