Summer is here and vacations are in full swing but have you ever considered learning in the summer? Many adults actually take the summer to learn new things, get college degrees and so much more. In fact I have been considering taking some courses to brush up on a few things and learn something new. Of course using eLearning like those that LeanForward creates is what I would consider.
Getting an education is important but many times once we become adults we just think we know everything we need. The truth is that there are always things to learn and skills to be brushed up on. Learning in the summer makes it much easier, as does eLearning. For moms learning in the summer is perfect because the kids aren’t in school. I know that sounds crazy but hear me out! That means you don’t have to worry about picking them up and the million other things that happen during the school year. Also many kids go away to camp which gives you a few weeks to learn something new. Like I said I have been considering a course or two. There are a few things that I would love to know how to do so that I can further my professional life.
Some adults may not even consider learning in the summer because they are so focused on getting the kids to send that time learning. They are missing out on a great opportunity because while they are trying to teach their children there are tons of things they themselves can be learning. I let the kids have the summer off and spend the time expanding my own mind.
What sort of classes would you love to take during the summer?
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Great post, Rita! Every summer for the past 3 years, I’ve attempted to teach myself French. I can speak spanish, and have heard that if you can speak another language then it’s easier to learn a new one. Every year I take-out books, tapes to listen to and practice. I usually do well the first week, then other daily life things take my attention. Hopefully I can buckle down and start doing something for me, and achieve my goal. Here’s hoping…

I haven’t taken any classes but my daughter just started taking her SAT Prep classes. She is also taking an online class this summer so she won’t have to take it next school year and can take an elective she wants. I think it’s great.

I really would love to learn Spanish. I would use it at my job since we are starting to do more work in Latin America.

I think continuing your education is a fantastic idea no matter the age. Summer really is the perfect time to take a class or two. I agree that learning a second language is something that intrigues me. Spanish, French and German are the ones that interest me most. As far as course work I too let the children take off but I do make sure to try and sneak learning into everyday situations, trips to the store etc.
