As August comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the month that has flown by and the approaching milestone of my 48th birthday on the 30th. It’s that time of year when the summer heat starts to wane, and the subtle shift toward fall begins, bringing with it a sense of renewal and anticipation. With just two days left, I’m feeling a mix of nostalgia for the summer memories made and excitement for what this new year of life will bring. It’s a time to savor the final days of August and to look forward to the celebrations and reflections that come with another year around the sun.
One of the things that is hitting me rather hard is the fact that my father passed away a few short months after his 48th birthday from congestive heart failure. For those who don’t know I have that as well. Although I have lived far longer than my dad did after his diagnoses. It is just a bit surreal to think that if I make to January (and there is no reason for me not to) then I will have lived longer than he did past his birthday.
We share the same day of the month for birthdays, both on the 30th. Mine in August and his in December. Although, technically we don’t. I was born on the 29th but there was no doctor so my birth certificate was done after midnight at the hospital. If you don’t know my birth story, it is rather a funny one.
He’s a Doll

One of the people at one of the stores that my youngest brother was filling in at, had a Funko made of him. It is really cute as you can see. However, as soon as Ma saw that thing she decided that of course…
Mom Needed One Too!

Needed one as well. This is one like my dad. I didn’t mind getting for her but if you are thinking of having a custom one done you should know they are like $54. I didn’t think they would be that much but whatever.
She Needed This Vase as Well

She has also discovered Shein and had to have this vase from there. Actually it is a cute vase but y’all her wish list had over 9,000 items in it. If she even remotely thinks she might like it she adds it to her list.
Turtles that Didn’t Fit

Okay I got these turtles to cover those bolts at the bottom of the toilet. The only problem is the bolts on my toilet are too tall for the turtles. My brother said I could change the bolts or just cut them down but that seems like too much work. Plus, I can’t get down on my knees to do it.
What in the World?

Have y’all seen these? They are a feminine pad and ice pack all in one. They are for after you have a baby. However, my mother’s doctor suggested she get some because she had some issues recently due to her diabetes and age. Things don’t heal as well and in her words” Diabetic itch is pain!” So I got her some. These things make an overnight pad look like a panty liner.
What in the World? Part 2

I took these pictures because I sent them to my sister in-law to show them to her. Then I sent them to my brother and said “I bet these are going to be great when she goes outside. You might need some!” You know how everything in that area gets all hot and sweaty in the heat. Especially in the south where the summer temperatures outside seem to be set at 9000 degrees. His response was to let him know how they worked because he wasn’t above shoving one in his drawer to beat the heat. I don’t know what to do with that.
Pulling Stitches

We got new curtains for the dinner room but the rod I got was too fat to fit in the hole. Rather than send it back I remembered I had a stitch puller and spend two hours pulling Stitches to open up the hole. They had that small hole with the little edge that sticks up. If that makes any sense. It took forever but they are hung. That window in the dining room is huge so the rod was custom ordered. I’m not even sure if they would have taken it back.
