November flew by in a blur of leaves, Thanksgiving preparations, and my yearly ritual of wondering why every month from October to December feels like a runaway train. Between early holiday shopping, attempts to stay warm, and my efforts to embrace cozy season, it’s safe to say this month was busy but full of those little moments that make it all worth it. Here’s a peek at my November, complete with family shenanigans, a little reflection, and of course, a Thanksgiving message as we head into tomorrow’s feast.
The Great Holiday Balancing Act
November is like the calm before the storm—or at least, it’s supposed to be. I always think of it as the quiet month where I can gently transition from fall to winter, savoring pumpkin everything while mentally preparing for holiday decorations. But somehow, it turns into a game of catching up on life while trying to get ahead on holiday to-dos. I felt like every week had its own flavor of chaos, from navigating crowded grocery store aisles to figuring out how to squeeze all the holiday decorating into a few free hours. And don’t even get me started on early Black Friday deals; I’m pretty sure my inbox gained a few extra pounds from all the promotional emails.
As the leaves fell, I started my yearly debate over when it’s acceptable to start decorating for Christmas. Do I ease in with some twinkle lights, or go all out? (I usually cave around mid-November and end up surrounded by ornaments and garlands.) This year, I added a few new pieces to my decor—nothing like a bit of retail therapy to celebrate the season!
Cozying Up for Winter
With the colder weather settling in, I spent a lot of time cozying up the house. Think endless blankets, candles, and mugs of tea. I’d like to think I mastered the art of hibernating while still being semi-productive, which mostly means moving my laptop from my desk to the couch and calling it a day. I even managed to tackle a couple of books that have been on my reading list forever, and I’m proud to say I resisted the urge to binge-watch every holiday movie available—well, for the most part.
This was also the month I rediscovered the joy of baking. There’s something about November that makes me want to turn on the oven and bake anything I can think of, from cookies to bread. Let’s just say the kitchen got a workout, and I probably need a nap from all the treats I consumed.
Adventures at Shady Pines
Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper month without the comedic antics of Ma and Uncle R. The two of them decided they wanted to “get ahead” on holiday planning, so they ventured out to one of those big-box stores that has Christmas decorations out before Halloween’s even over. Ma found a wreath that she fell in love with—complete with blinking lights and little bells. Uncle R, on the other hand, was less enthused and kept saying it looked “like a disco gone wrong.” They ended up bickering over whether the wreath was festive or frightening, right in the middle of the store aisle. Eventually, they compromised and left with two wreaths: one for “class” (as Uncle R put it) and one for “clashing with the neighbors.” Let’s just say their house is now the most eclectic blend of decor you’ve ever seen, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Reflecting on Gratitude
As we approach Thanksgiving, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’m thankful for. It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of the holidays, but November always brings me back to a sense of gratitude for the little things. I’m grateful for the laughter and silliness that comes with family, the cozy moments at home, and the friends who have become like family over the years. Life may be hectic, but it’s filled with the kind of memories that make the craziness all worth it.
This time of year, I’m also thankful for the traditions that bring us all together. Whether it’s putting up a certain decoration, baking a particular dish, or simply gathering around the table, there’s a comfort in the routines that mark the holidays. And yes, I’m thankful for the technology that lets me keep in touch with friends and family who are far away—it’s always nice to have a virtual seat at the Thanksgiving table, even if it’s just a quick video call.
Looking Ahead to Thanksgiving
Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving, and like every year, I’m filled with excitement (and maybe a little nervous energy) for the big day. There’s something magical about gathering around the table, sharing a meal that’s been lovingly (and sometimes haphazardly) prepared, and laughing over stories from years past. Sure, there’s the slight chaos of making sure everything gets cooked on time, and that one relative who always shows up “fashionably late,” but somehow it all comes together in the end.
As we sit down for the feast tomorrow, I’ll be holding all these memories of the past month close to my heart. I’m grateful for each and every moment, from the hilarious Shady Pines excursions to the quiet times at home. So, here’s to a Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and plenty of food! Wishing you all a wonderful holiday, filled with the kind of joy that only comes from being surrounded by those who matter most. And hey, if the turkey ends up a little dry, just douse it in gravy—because that’s what Thanksgiving’s all about, right?
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! May your day be as warm as your oven and as sweet as the pumpkin pie.

My month was busy. Had my condo sprayed for pests – which means emptying ALL the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. SO HARD, and I’m still putting stuff back.
