Living One Day at a Time! #JoinTheFamilia #ODAAT #spon

Jan 10, 2017 | Rita

Life can throw some pretty unusual curve balls and as a single mother that is something I am more than familiar with. Let’s face it I didn’t start out wanting to be a single mother. Nope I ended up with the most unfaithful man on the planet. Okay maybe not the planet but certainly the only one I have ever met.  I got divorced, the kids, depressed, and then I picked myself up because life goes on in the way that it always does. There are moments I can now look back on and laugh about because it’s funny now. That is one of the biggest reasons I am loving the new Netflix show, One Day at a Time!

About One Day at a Time
This new Netflix show comes from legendary producer Norman Lear, known for his hit-TV shows Sanford and Son, All in the Family, The Jefferson, as well as the original One Day at a Time. This new take on the original show follows a Latino-American family and their cross-generational experiences. The series, a multi-camera comedy, will follow three generations of the same Cuban-American family living in the same house: a newly divorced former military mother, her teenage daughter and tween son, and her old-school mother.

If you haven’t watched this show then I highly recommend this show because it is some funny but the one thing I love the most is how real it is. This could actually moments from my home. I’m not lying, there are moments when I think I have said that or done that and to be honest I don’t feel bad about it. I can relate to Penelope (Justina Machado) on so many different levels. One I have a huge family of military veterans but I love that this was about her being the veteran and not a man. No offense guys but a lot of shows have male military characters in them. Of course she is a single mother as well and a dang good one in my opinion.

Like her I always have multiple generations living together under one roof and there are days when it is not as easy as you may think. For starters my mother is nothing like Lydia (Rita Moreno) who is so funny and actually reminds me a little of my sister. I also have my uncle living in the house with me and let me tell you that there are more than enough differences of opinions to call a committee meeting to order. Everyone has ideas of what I need to do, what discipline to give out, how to act, and well you get the picture. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Watch the Trailer

Haven’t had a chance to watch One Day at a Time yet? Then you don’t know what you are missing and I highly suggest that you head over to YouTube and watch the One Day at a Time official trailer there. Trust me you are going to fall off your seat laughing so hard. This is what a real family looks like in today’s society regardless of the number of adults in the house, the color of their skin, or the cultures they celebrate. Just and FYI: when you watch the video I may or may not do the whole signing in the car the same way.

This looks like a great show! I just finished A Series of Unfortunate Events and this one seems like a good one to binge on next.
