On day 15 of the 25 Days of Me I want to share something that you may already know but you may not. I am a HUGE fan of British television. Especially the mysteries and such. I would say this stems from my childhood and teens when I would watch them on public television with my father and with my grandmother when I spent the summers with her.
Growing up on Saturday nights we watched shows like Keeping Up Appearances and Are You Being Served with my parents. Those are both comedies and when I see them on sometimes I will watch them just for old times sake.
It was my grandmother who got me started on Miss Marple and I have been watching, as well as reading, her ever since. One thing I never understood though is why it is Miss and not Ms when it comes to her name. I mean she isn’t married and Miss is usually reserved for little girls or young women. After a certain age (and she certainly is) it changes to Ms. Not that it really matters but I wondered.
My other favorite shows are Midsomer Murders, Madame Blanc Mysteries, Vera, Manhunt (based on real life detective Colin Sutton), Unforgotten, Shetland, Agatha Raisin, Queens of Mystery, Hinderland (this once can get pretty graphic with the blood and all) and Father Brown just to name a few.
Now some of those are very serious and modern while others are more or less cozy mystery. I like both and a good mix of them. I watch them all on a variety of apps on the Roku. Acorn TV, BritBox (both of which I have monthly subscriptions via Prime Video). I watch some on Prime Video and Netflix as well. I am currently working my way through Midsomer Murders as there are 21 seasons.
