Raise your hand if this is you. You got to the beach or the public pool and you end up wearing an oversized tee or even leggings. I’ve had those moments as well. I’m a plus size gal and well, I always feel like everything is hanging out everywhere. The worst feeling is that everyone is looking at me and thinking “Gross, she should not wear a bathing suit out in public.” Yeah, I have some body issues. That is why I am thrilled to learn that Lyra Swim carries plus size items.
If you have never heard of Lyra Swim you are not alone. They began in 2016 as a brand who reflected many of the issues that countless women shared with founder Ikram. Many of the women have faiths that only allow for modest swimwear which something that most swimsuits don’t afford. Of course there are plenty of other issues for women that Lyra Swim takes care of as well. Like me with my body issues or my mother who has to cover most of her skin because of her skin condition. She hasn’t been in the pool or out at the beach in years because she can’t seem to find items to cover herself well enough.
With all that in mind and taking influence from influence from all over the world, marrying Hollywood’s classic elegance and Morocco’s beachside culture in the process. The resulting collection gives women minimal silhouettes that experiment with bold colors and patterns. Add in the fact that they offer wide range of sizes that includes plus size modest swimwear and you have a very happy customer base.
My favorite is the Sofia in Lavender because it covers more of my flaws around the stomach area. Now don’t worry the swimsuits purchased as sets or separates, with the option to add a turban-style swim cap that keeps your head covered while still looking trendy. It is perfect for those whose faith require them to cover their heads. With this suit I don’t have to zip it all the way to the top. I hate to feel like I’m choking so leaving it unzipped just a little at my neck is perfect. The color is soft and feminine but not too crazy.
The top is of course a fitted zip top and while drysuit zipper replacement is something you may need to consider it is still worth it in my opinion. While the leggings are ankle length with elasticated mid waist. The skirt is detachable. One of the great things is that Lyra swimwear is made using quick drying, chlorine resistant, high quality swimwear fabric. Not to mention UPF 50+ protection against UV rays.
I also like the Halima because the color combination is just so different. This is one that I would wear to the beach or if I was going to the pool with friends. That way I could be comfortable but also stylish with the color. I don’t know there is just something about it that is so beautiful it captures my attention without being over the top.
It’s time to say so long to those oversized tees that do nothing to flatter and honestly make you stand out more. The moment someone sees you in one of those things they wonder what you are trying to hide. Lyra Swim lets you cover yourself and be modest without sacrificing style. It is more than any other company has done for us ladies looking to be more modest.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

These are nice in addition to not having to feel on display, but for the sun protection. My mom had to stay covered up from hat to long sleeves, to her toes and stay under the umbrella, she still had lots of skin cancer when older. I have been trying to stay out of the sun and use sunscreen year round, but that is no fun. This is a great option, and cute, too!
