I posted this recipe back in the summer of 202 and thought it would be a good time to share it again. Spring and summer will be approaching soon and honestly after the cold snap over the weekend I am dreaming of warmer days. When the whether gets hot I try to drink fewer sodas. I drink more sweet tea but one of my favorites is a southern classic. That’s right when it gets hot you will totally find me on my porch drinking lemonade. It is a tried and true favorite. Although I have had some that will pucker your butt cheeks. I like mine a little sweet, but not too sweet. Not too tart either.
Many recipes call for simple syrup but I never use this. I haven’t had any complaints about my lemonade yet. I dissolve the sugar in lemon juice which makes everything taste better if you ask me. Also remember if you like your to be tart then use less sugar. If you want sweeter add in more sugar. It is usually 1 cup of lemon juice to 1 cup of sugar which you add to 1 1/2 quarts of cold water. That is the classic ratio but you can adjust your however you need to.
INGREDIENTS
- 8 to 10 large lemons
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 quarts water (6 cups)
- Ice (I say this is a must!)
- Lemon slices, for serving (optional but it makes your glass look pretty)
Directions
- Juice the lemons. This is easy just cut them in half and squeeze . If you have a juicer or reamer great. If not don’t worry. Make sure you strain out any pulp and seeds. I actually do my by hand over a strainer that is over a bowl. Then I pout the mix into my pitcher. It just makes it easier.
- Combine the lemon juice and sugar. Now you add the sugar to the lemon juice. Whisk until sugar is completely dissolved.
- Add the water. If you mixed everything in a bowl pour it into a pitcher and add water. Stir until combine, put into fridge. I suggest getting this nice and cold before serving. When you do serve pour over ice and add a lemon slice to the side of the cup or even in the glass.
Notes
My mother always sliced some lemons up and added those slices to the pitcher. I’m not sure why she did this. Maybe to make it loo pretty but it is something that I do as well.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
