Maleficent Arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD

We were sent a copy of Disney’s Maleficent which arrived on Blu-Ray and DVD yesterday and I must say this movie surprised me. Most of us are familiar with the story of Sleeping Beauty but we don’t know anything about the story behind the wicked fairy Maleficent, until now. I must say that her story can change the way you view Sleeping Beauty forever.

We had the best time watching this movie. As I said is surprised me because I didn’t think it was going to be as good as it actually was. I found myself feeling sorry for Maleficent at times and laughing out loud at some other scenes. Angelina Jolie has done a marvelous job of portraying Maleficent and I love watching her trying not to feel anything at all for Aurora.

The kingdom surrounding the story is one that you never really see in the Sleeping Beauty story but it actually very important in the story of Maleficent. The way she feels about both her “world” and the human kingdom evolves throughout the movie. I will say there is a scene that may be a bit much (heart breaking) for younger children and the pain that Maleficent feels during this scene really hits you in the stomach. I wanted to cry for her as well. Of course in true Disney fashion though everything is alright in the end.

The twist that this story takes is beyond great! It makes you think about all things we don’t know about the other fairy tales. I mean what if the the stepmother in Cinderella wasn’t really so bad just a little misunderstood? Maleficent in the movie to watch with your family this week and with the holidays coming up it should be on your gift giving list for someone!

  1. I loved this in the theaters, and was so surprised by what a great job was done expanding the original story while still keeping the feel of the classic we all know and love. The setting and costumes were just amazing, really reminiscent of the animated Sleeping Beauty. I’m really looking forward to picking up a copy and checking out all the bonus features.

  2. I didn’t get to see the movie and I’m psyched it is now on DVD – seems so fast! Now I know a little more about it, and sounds like a movie that would appeal to all ages – yippeee!

  3. I would love to see this movie as I don’t go to the movie theaters as I get too claustrophobic in crowds. I would love to see this as two of my grandkids saw the movie and loved it. This would be a great movie to watch during the holidays.
