Our home consists of myself, hubby, our children, and my mom. However our daily lives include several other older family members as well. I am usually the one responsible for managing our home as well as the medical care and paperwork aspect of the other family members lives. This keeps me super busy along with all the work I do. Living in a home with more than one generation is never easy. My mom has her way of doing things and that normally clashes with my way. The kids stress my mom out because she likes order and neatness and let’s face it kids are anything but orderly and neat. When you add in two aunts that regularly go to the doctor’s office (I’m talking a few times a week), a disabled uncle who needs help with paperwork and such, and another uncle who has dementia and can’t remember our names most of the time it’s a wonder I don’t pull out all of my hair. For those of you who are screaming ,”Put them all in a home!”, let me say that typically this is not done in a Hispanic household and my husband will not hear of it. As long as we are able to care for them we will.
I recently read The State of the Hispanic Caregiver from Comfort Plus Online and was very surprised. I learned that while overall Hispanics have a lower prevalence of many chronic health conditions they are more likely to have diabetes and be overweight. Both of which concern me because I have a family history of diabetes and weight problems. These are things I don’t ant passed onto my children but also something we deal with daily with my aunts who are both diabetic. The paper also said that on average Hispanic caregivers are significantly younger than non-Hispanic caregivers. I began caring for my mom in my mid-Twenties and my hubby began caring for his family not long after. The paper was very informative and I learned a lot about Comfort Plus Online.
Comfort Plus Online is a retailer that promotes Tranquility products which happen to be the most absorbent products on the market which also makes them the most cost effective as well. For those of you who aren’t sure what Tranquility products are they are for those who have incontinence problems. If you care for an adult (or more than one) that has this issue then you know how much not having to change them often helps you and your stress levels.
Comfort Plus Online is more than just a retailer, they are helping Hispanic caregivers as well as Hispanic adults get the information they need concerning home care. On their site they have “Comfort Plus Para Ti” which is a Spanish-language section to help those who don’t speak or read English have access to information. Who wouldn’t want to shop with a retailer that puts you and your health first?
I urge each and every one of you to Like Comfort Plus on Facebook and to follow them on Twitter. Just because you think that you don’t need them doesn’t mean that there isn’t someone in your life who does need not only the Tranquility products that Comfort Plus Online offers but also the information they provide. I have made it easy for you to Like an Follow. All you have to do is click the links above and you are on your way.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

this was a very interesting post. I am also a family caregiver. I have been doing this for many years, since I was a child. I am non-Hispanic, and began caregiving at the age of 9 or 10, starting with my grandmother. I now, at age 27, am a caregiver for my Father, Mother, and older brother. I would never put any of them into a home. My Father is a diabetic and has many complications from it. I am always concerned about diabetes, and am always trying to regulate everyone’s diet while I also work in home healthcare and go to school full time. As for the incontinence care, my Mother has a lot of issues with it and this company looks great. Thanks for writing the review and I will be checking into getting supplies from them. 🙂

Thank you so much for directing me to this facebook site. I have also lived in a multi-generational household and it is not easy.
