About MAYBE DON’T WANNA
Peter Parker Penn.
Unlike the superhero his mother named him after, Parker is no good guy.
In fact, if there’s a picture in the dictionary under anti-hero, it’s his.
Parker’s spent his life trying to get back on the right side of the tracks, but each step he takes forward, he takes two more steps back.
To save one, he hurts others. To make this good, he turns that bad.
For appearances’ sake, he plays the part. He does what people expect him to do-mostly. And at the end of each day, he goes back to his lonely apartment and wishes he was a different person. One who could fix the things he’s broken.
Then Kayla Nash forces her way into his life, and the world as he knows it is irrevocably changed.
Everything he thinks he has right is wrong. And everything he thinks is wrong is oh, so right.
One thing leads to another, and suddenly he’s growing a conscience, and trying to prove to her that he’s as bad as everybody says he is.
Yet she won’t listen.
She’s convinced that she can save him.
Little does she know, Parker isn’t worth saving, and never will be.

My Thoughts
ON THIS BOOK
From page one of this book I was in tears. How could I not be? This is the story of Parker and Kayla both of whom you may recognize from previous books. Parker was in a gang when he was younger and is the kid who gave Trance that scar on his neck. He had to slit his throat in order to save his sister. If you think that was the worst thing that could happen to him you would be wrong. The first few pages were filled with heartache.
Kayla isn’t without her own heartache. Her father was friends with the men of Free and was killed in action way back in the very first book when Kayla was little. She lived with her grandmother until she too passed away and then she went to live with James and Shiloh. While she grew up surrounded by love and so many people she feels as though she is on the outside looking in. There isn’t anyone who is just hers.
Then there is Carmen, Parker’s retired military dog. Carmen has problems that are just as heartbreaking. She was kidnapped and tortured by terrorist, has PTSD, and hates women with a passion. She doesn’t want anyone near her except Parker. Sounds like a book filled with hurt and pain right?
Nope, these three need one another in ways they can’t understand or explain. Kayla ends up not only working with Parker but living next door. She reaches out to Carmen when no one else would have bothered. A simple gesture that Carmen took to heart and when she hears Kayla having nightmares she is right there to defend her. Add in a crazy serial killer and you have one of the best books Lani Lynn Vale has written so far.
I have one single issue with this book. Parker’s father! I loved that he made Parker make a choice to better himself but boy does that man have issues. Talk about someone living in a glass house. I really would have liked to know if he ever managed to have a relationship with his son in any way in the future.
As I said this is a wonderful book and although I cried through more than any other book I can tell you that I have already read it like three times. It is that good. I am always telling y’all what a great writer Lani Lynn Vale is and it shows more in this book than any other. She deals with some real world issues right away. She handled them in the most caring and respectful way. Carmen isn’t written in a merely another dog. She has her own personality and struggles. That is what makes her so lovable. All I wanted to do the whole book was hug her but she probably would have gnawed off my face. Parker doesn’t see himself as worthy but he is more worthy than he will ever know and Kayla shows him that. I even love that him and Trance were able to come full circle.
