Meatloaf

Oct 13, 2012 | Rita

Meatloaf

I promised you my Meatloaf recipe and here it is. I however cannot take credit for the entire recipe as the topping is from Paula Deen. ENJOY!!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 package meatloaf mix (this is available in the spice aisle near the gravy)
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup crushed Ritz crackers
  • 1/2 cup milk
Topping
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mustard

Directions

DON’T follow the direction on the back of the mix package. Instead mix everything together in a large bowl, breaking up any cracker pieces that are too big. Shape into loaf and put into bread pan.  Spoon topping across the top as thick or as thin as you like. Bake on 350 for 1 hour or until done.

Yummmmm! I love meatloaf! I always top mine with ketchup–it’s good, but your brown sugar and mustard sound really wonderful! *pinned*

I would never have thought to use brown sugar or ritz crackers. Will give it a try. We like to cover ours with bacon, because bacon makes everything better 😉

I have never seen a meatloaf mix either! The other day I had a craving for meatloaf and didnt have anything thawed to make it. I also add sausage/venison to our meatloafs but like the ground beef ones too.

The mix is my mama’s secret. She has always used it, just be sure to look where your packaged gravies are. It gives you all the seasonings you need. The Ritz crackers actually salt the meat for you which adds to the flavor.

I love meatloaf but it just takes so long to fix, we also use brown sugar but inside of the ritz we use bread crumbs

This sounds really different, so I’m going to try it. Williams and McCormick have a huge variety of mixes. I’ll start with them for the meatloaf mix. Thanks for the recipe!

I forgot to mention that another great topping is bottled chili sauce. You will be surprised how delicious it is. I tried it on a fluke and we love it.

This sounds really good with the brown sugar and mustard added to it. I have always just put tomato paste on the top. My kids say it has to much of a tomato taste. I will have to give your recipe a shot. Thanks!

Meat loaf is not only delicious and filling. So many other meals can be made from one meat loaf. Make it large and meat loaf sandwiches can be one of the extra meals. This recipe is easy and quick as well as cost effective.
